As I was sitting here I started wondering how the uptick in creating custom units has come along over the years. Sure, I see the count growing, but I've never analyzed it before. Well, I just did, and I was pleased. Here are the number of custom units designed on this site, year-over-year, starting in 2020.
2020 → 1,422
2021 → 2,909
2022 → 4,372
2023 → 10,270
And so far in 2024, with a little less than 3 months gone by, we're at 3,585 custom designs. That's on pace for an all-time high of 15,765!

I know I see the occasional design that gets submitted from a new source before I have the chance to input it. But very tough to know how many are identical in nature.

Wow, congratulations! Mordel.net is an amazing resource. The forums may not be as busy as 20 years ago, but I'm willing to bet the submissions are at an all time high.

Willing to bet that'll be a non-insignificant number. But the submissions not being curated (beyond having to be legal) gives the whole thing its own charm.
Granted, it's been years since it was viable to idly scroll through the fan designs. But there's been so many options to make them visible in other ways.
And goodness. I use this site's (semi-)private options all the time in the quest for future official units. The mobility of it all is a true USP.

| As I mentioned elsewhere, building mechs here and being able to import into my tabletop as record sheets and even TRO format is very nice. However, import into MegaMek is my favorite. I simply favor the builder here
