I made and saved two designs this morning, one BattleMech, one vehicle, had them as “public” when saving, but neither is showing to me in the design forum?

How this works was changed and will change again. There's a new Designer Settings icon in the top right. The Post to Forums checkbox was moved to that and is now saved from session-to-session. Short-term you'll need to check that box to get them saved.

Long-ter, I'm removing that because I'm still not happy. What you'll eventually see is a "down arrow" which will be part of the Save button. You can click Save or click the down arrow which will have a 'Save and post for Forums' option. This way it's more of a conscious decision with each design instead of a "set-it-and-forget-it" thing.

New issue: made a design this morning (a Dire Wolf alternate configuration). Posted it like I’ve done my last few that then showed up in the design forum. Said it saved.

Went to the design forum, but didn’t see it.

Went back to design program, and confirmed it had been saved, and that I had the box checked to post it to the forum as a public design. Everything looked right.

Went back to the design forum. Saw someone else had a thread for Dire Wolf OmniMech. Had a hunch, and clicked on it.

Sure enough, my new design was posted as a response to this thread?!?!?

Hmmm... yeah. I can see why that happened with how I coded it. With OmniMechs being in a single thread now it gets wonky when designing a configuration from a canon base unit.

So the good news is, the code worked exactly as I had programmed it (I'll take the win). The bad news is it isn't ideal for these scenarios. I have a few thoughts on how to possibly address it, but curious if you had an opinion or two on it?

I honestly do not like it as it looks like you just replied with a comment to the initial design posted, and did not necessarily post your own design.

I understand the intent is the reduce the flood of new threads in the forum, but if it only works that way with OmniMech designs, and not with standard BattleMechs, it doesn’t help with flood reduction (as we’ve seen over the last little bit), and just serves to hide design postings some of us would like comments about.

I think what has helped, and might be hidden a bit, is the updates to existing designs don't create replies (they edit the original post) unless someone made a comment to the original. That TRULY has cut down a lot of the garbage "reply" posts one would see when simply updating their design.

Would your preference then be to have a separate Post per alternate configuration that behaves in the same manner?

I don’t have a real issue with modifying a design creating a reply post, but will say that I prefer for it to simply modify the original post, as you say it is now doing.

What I don’t like is “losing track” of a design because it now posts as a reply to something else when before it posted as its own thing.

If the system is going to post it as a reply, that needs to be notified as such up front.

But maybe that opinion just comes from being blindsided by it happening to me.
