Becoming disenfranchised by the Lyran government and sustaining mounting losses from Jade Falcon incursions the Black Sun Irregulars, along with elements of other units whose contracts expired as well as deserters from the LCAF, departed the Arc Royal Defense Cordon to seek a better future elsewhere. These units formed Black Sun Security, a traveling security firm which offers their services to state-level entities, corporations, and governments who are engaged in high risk operations with other entities. Specializing in recon-in-force, target penetration testing, industrial negotiations, defensive security actions, hostile takeovers, and target acquisitions, they have proven to be a mission-diversified company.
Assets include the command lance consisting of a heavily modified Rifleman piloted by the company CO Tybalt Lisanti, an aging Hunchback and Hatchetman piloted by members of the CO’s militia unit, as well as a Clan Wolf-in-Exile Locust piloted by a freebirth warrior looking to change his fortunes. Recon duties are handled by the company's armored vehicle elements, an augmented lance of ancient but lovingly maintained J.Edgar hover tanks supported by a Warrior VTOL flight.
Due to an administration error, a battalion of Fenrir battle armor intended to reinforce units loyal to Katrina Stiener found their way to the ARDC where they were quickly integrated into local units. When questioned about the error authorities were told the equipment was “lost in transit” with further investigations having no success in locating the missing armor. After mistakenly being listed as MIA against Jade Falcon raiders, several squads used the opportunity to sign up with the Black Suns, leaving the FedCom civil war behind. These squads are now used primarily in defensive and ambush operations where they excel.
Perhaps the BSS’s most prized asset, the Rocinante, is a Mule class dropship refitted to be capable of carrying the whole company. Some outside the BSS say Captain Lisanti won the ship in a high stakes poker game. Others say he and the company stole it while fleeing the ARDC. The truth is the ship is owned by an old friend of the Captain, Molly O’Bannon, who agreed to go into business with the mercenaries. The Rocinante acts both as transportation and mobile base of operations for the time being.
Currently Black Sun Security is in the employ of Banshee Industries located in the Magistry of Canopus.
