Heavy short range firepower, ability to handle it and armor to deliver it... It needs some long range covering fire, but that's nothing the Archer couldn't handle. This variant needs more aggressive approach to battle, and it can afford that, because it doesn't have to get rid of the LRMs. It just charges forward and rips anything standing against it (unless it is an assault 'Mech, umm... a well designed assault 'Mech). |

from a message board thread:
ON1-VA - ....or production variant of the Orion V. And rightly so. I'll say it up front: this is easily my favourite variant of the Orion. It retains the 2nd SRM launcher but looses the missiles. This enables the armour to stay at the original very heavy full strength and allows for an additional 6 (!) heat sinks.
The fluff cites minor problems in AA work, which apparently the LRM15 worked great in for the original design.
So why do I like this design so much? Well, the variant not only focuses more on the original role (BRAWLER), but in doing so naturally becomes MUCH better at it!
It can wade into the thick of the enemy, protected by good armour and a good medium-range gun and just open up at short ranges, where it will be a horror with solid weapons, good weapons placement and an incredible rate of fire (meaning it won't overheat even if it alpha strikes until kingdom come).
This I like. Sorry, mud, I cannot see a Blackjack (which I love fiercely for on-board performance) or a Jagermech (which I still love for pure style) take it out. Ever.
And it was also my favourite conversion job of my plastic 'mech tinkering! |

The loss of the LRM severly cripples its longrange firepower but it has a brutal closerange punch and the heatsinks to use it while still being heavily armored!
Try to avoid open fields! |

An effective iron fist weapon, works well in a lance of similar mechs (Marauder and grasshopper make effective partners). The AC is the selling point on this mech. Plenty of ammo means it will should waltz up close and punch through most enemy formations.
use it as the crux of your formation. A marauder or Warhammer will most likely draw the firepower away, allowing it in close to pummel an enemy. Several of these can really ruin an enemies day. The AC10 is one of the best all round weapons of the 3025 era. |

I find this design average in the heavy mech department. Just keep it as the support mech for the missile boat lance. Give it another ton of AC 10 ammo instead of 2 of SRM 4 ammo.
Other than that, remember to give this mech long range fire support because without that LRM rack its denuded for long range duels. |
