The ER-PPC instead of the LRM makes this variant very dangerous especially against other lights. The small laser can deliver some additional firepower up close but even with full armor it will only survive close range attacks from smaller mechs that it can down quickly with its main weapon.
But this main weapon was payed for with an XL. Combined with the still slow speed (6/9 is slow for a 20tonner around 3060 that doesn't carry jump jets) this can lead to a disabled Thorn soon.
Use it in a sniper role and guard it against enemies comming close. |

6/9/6 is terrible? Last that I checked it was averager for a 20 tonner....lets see...locust....mercury...fireball...red shift...kabuto...yep. Those are the only ones faster. Everything else in the 20 ton class is 6/9/6 or slower.
"armour is really too low".....WTF? 69 units is all that it CAN carry! What do you want Battlemaster armor on a 20 tonner? And FF isn't an option using DHS's since there aren't enough criticals available and you cant put enough SHS on it to even use the ERPPC. Get real. It has great armor for its weight.
As for #3: If you shaved off 0.5 tons armor you could up the SL to an ERML and then ride the heat curve forever after. Or you could live with the SL and make it ER and call it good.
This is a canon mech design, they all contain flaws intentionally. If every mech were a "super"-design this would have been a very shortlived game and been boring. TPTB now and past gave us creation rules to keep imaginations runnig and wishing for "apparent" improvements.
My take on this one...
WOW! a 20 tonner with an ERPPC! and the heat sinks to use it! With max armor and average ground speed! What would make it even better???? Jump! BUT...there isn't room or enough weight left over to do it.
On a scale of 1 to 10...
I'd give it a 6.5 or 7 |

This isn't fast enough to afford to depend on the ER PPC as its sole weapon. Hang at long range and harass people with the PPC. That's basically all this is capable of. Don't let anyone close if you can avoid it, because they will kill you. If a gauss round doesn't take this out, a Locust will. It's just a matter of time. |
