Sure the XL Engine is a big flaw, but you got reviews here complaining about heat sinks
Problem is, THERE'S NO ROOM! Look at the distribution chart and tell me WHERE are there 3 slots in a row to house anymore DHS? Those streak SRMs and extra pulse lasers I have little doubt are more there to fill up the tonnage.
An imperfect design, especially since one lucky elemental criting the leg can mean BOOM, but I'm raising my review because I feel people are knocking this down more than it deserves simply out of wishing for improvements that are impossible with IS tech |

Almost everybody says: Put some more heatsinks in! But...hell...where?? The only possibility to put one additional DHS in is to drop the left hand actuator (and, lets say, the small pulse :D ) and squeeze a third one into that arm. But it would not really need it. It can fire 3-2-3 while running and would slow down to 3/5 every other round, so what? Thats the speed of the -8Q. When it fires 2 PPC´s the next turn while running the heat would drop to 0. Sure: The secondary weapons mix is somewhat strange but can be fixed easily: replace the streaks by two more medium pulse lasers or replace the lasers by two more streaks. The second variant had great success in our games: Fire the PPC´s while your enemy advances and when he´s close and holed fire two PPC´s and the four streaks while running with no heat. You can send up to 8 missiles to exploit the holes in his armor while still having the heavy firepower of two ER-PPC´s. |

Not THAT bad really. The AWS-9M Awesome packs the same punch, but it can project it at greater range. The speed has also been upgraded to match standards of later eras, but the price it paid for this was high. XL engine is not wasted here, but it greatly increases the cost and vulnerability. Fortunately it's wrapped in heatsinks so it at least isn't as suspectible to random criticals. Added speed also offers some tactical flexibility and allows relocation at better than snail's pace. I'm somewhat vexed by inclusion of the streak SRMs however. Perhaps the original thought was to use infernos, but even then I don't really think it's worth the risk to include ammo on a 'Mech that is rather easy to overheat and quite likely to do so as one morw PPC salvo may be critical. Certainly an above average machine with some flaws keeping it from achieving greatness. |

Is it just me or is the 3050 technical readout full of crappy "upgrades" of old Inner Sphere mechs? This one is especially poor since I don't even think it is as good as the old 3025 Awesome, yet it costs twice as much and is more vulnerable thanks to its XL engine. It's faster, but I don't remember speed ever being a problem with the Awesome given its intended role. The old Awesome could fire its three PPCs 3-3-2 without any penalties from overheating. This one can't even fire all three in one turn with suffering a penalty. In addition, this mech has an ineffective mish-mash of generally crappy weapons for its secondary armament. Overall, compared to the old mech it is "upgrading" this one is more vulnerable, more expensive, and in the long has less firepower (unless you overheat like a madman). A great example of bad mech design. |

Pile of garbage. Dump both SSRM-2s, Ammo, and SPL for more HS so you can actually USE this as fire support. Maybe even ditch the medium... 2 more DHS outta the deal there. Of course then you run into the problem of where to put them. And that IS the problem. Not enough crit space for crappy I.S. DHS. |
