Overview:
The War Dog class BattleMech has been almost 300 years in the making. Originally designed
for use by the SLDF, the plans and prototype chassis were removed from Terra shortly before
the fall of the Star League. Only scant references to the design remained until 3052, when
Snord's Irregulars, the Federated Commonwealth mercenary unit, captured a long-lost SLDF
base in the Dark Nebula.
The base, known as Camelot Command, has been undergoing refurbishing and refitting,
serving as a FedCom raiding base despite several attacks by Clan Jade Falcon. During the
refit, Snord's Irregulars recovered several chassis for the War Dog, as well as a complete
set of blueprints. These were smuggled back to the Federated Commonwealth during a resupply
run, resulting in an almost immediate start on production.
The Irregular's commanding officer Rhonda Snord had the designs delivered to the
Blackwell Corporation, the Wolf's Dragoon-sponsored firm on Outreach. The engineers at
Blackwell realized the value of the design and began work on an extended production run of
the War Dog.
Capabilities:
The key to the success of this heavy 'Mech is its heavy armor protection. With more than
twelve tons of ferro-fibrous armor, the War Dog can weather the heavy fire-power typical of
an encounter with Clan forces. Added to this is the anti-missile system mounted on the
forward right torso.
The firepower of the 'Mech is based on the Grizzard Gauss rifle, and supplemented by a
Blankenburg large pulse laser. The War Dog also carries two medium pulse lasers for
close-fire support. A small pulse laser is rear mounted on the head of this 'Mech for
anti-Elemental support, the only modification to the original Star League design
specifications. The War Dog carries a last-ditch weapons system in the two SRM Streak
one-shot missile packs mounted on the upper legs of the 'Mech.
One of the most distinctive features of this 'Mech is that its right arm has more armor
protection than its left. This imbalance requires that a 'Mech pilot practice some
gyro-balancing, but it also offers exceptional protection to the War Dog's Gauss rifle, the
most powerful weapon it mounts. Though the weapon arm is more heavily shielded, it appears
roughly the same size and shape as its weaker companion.
Deployment:
Several War Dogs, menacing and easily recognizable, have already found their way to Solaris
VII, where the 'Mech has become almost a household name among game fans.
The Blackwell Corporation has filled orders for War Dogs with every major Great House of
the Inner Sphere and for a number of mercenary units. The Federated Commonwealth currently
fields the largest number of War Dogs, with most assigned to the Federated Commonwealth/Clan
Occupation Zone border
The Word of Blake has placed an order for two lances of War Dogs. It is believed that
these will serve as replacements in their massive reconstruction and rearming effort.

A really ugly mech with some very good features and some odd flaws. The combination of a gauss and pulse lasers will give it a hard punch at any range. That 40 rounds of ammo will rain down gauss shells almost for ever. But i think 24 shots would have been enough. ECM and that well supplied AMS will be of much use too as will be the heavy armor (exept for the left arm). Heat is not that much of a problem here. But on the other side the lack of CASE can totally destroy your fancy hightech mech soon. Another odd decision is the use of OS launchers. Sure: The streaks will only fire when you really hit but 4 tons are dedicated for that: enough to mount two real streak-2 with 50 shots.

I piloted one of these once. had the worst luck with it for 10 rounds of fighting. The egg on stilts, took a LRM 20 rack at max range 3 rounds into the battle, all 20 missiles hit. The 3/4 pilot fell, and couldnt remember how to stand for the next 9 rounds of combat. When all was said and done it had knocked its arm off and damaged a gyro, I eventually shut it down, to save time. I have tried ti since with similar results. Guess the mech just dosent like me.

i like the weapons array. something for all ranges. the ams and ecm are nice additions. loose the srm OS's and sm pls. and maybe 2 tons of ammo for something else. not sure what but it would give a person more to work with.

A nice weapons combination, with something for all ranges. Plus a Guardian and a rare instance of giving AMS sufficient ammo. The small pulse is kind of useless, as few things are more annoying than having an enemy behind you, but out of range of your rear facing weapon. That's a lot of ammo, and unless you're running a campaign, it's probably too much.
The only drawbacks are the low armor and those OS launchers. If those were two real Streak 2s and a ton of ammo, they'd actually be useful.

A gauss rifle with bottomless ammo bins. The only downside is that it needs another DHS so pull the small pulse.
Do something else with the 4 tons tied up in the OS launchers... anything else.
This is a line mech you have to respect for a campaign because with just a quick armour patch kit you can send this War Dog out battle after battle.
