    After the limited success of their Arrow and Dirk Battlemechs, Armstrong Tractor and Armory
    Co. pushed forth with a larger design, their heaviest yet. This project resulted in the
    Trench, a dedicated defensive linefighter for those militias and mercenaries that had a need
    for low-cost mechs to fight small skirmishes and pirate raids. Initially debuting in 2657,
    the Trench was a straightforward mech that maintained parts commonality with its
    predecessors. While successfully produced at low cost, the Trench never made it big in
    anything beyond the local systems, and while produced continually through the succession
    wars was never produced in enough numbers to have an impact anywhere of note.

    The TRN-1A refined the initial TRN-1 prototype. A Pitban 220 Fusion engine provided a top
    speed of 64.8 km/h, with four Pitban LFT 50 jump jets for maneuvering. 11.5 tons of Durallex
    armor plate provided adequate protection, and Dalban FastTrack and HiRez communications and
    targeting systems rounded out the systems.
    The weapons load started with a locally-built ATA Longfire AC/10 with to tons of ammunition
    provided the main punch, and three Defiance-brand medium lasers to provide backup fire. Some
    indirect fire was provided for with one ATA Atlatl LRM-5 with a single ton of ammunition.
