Overview:
    Among only a handful of new BattleMech designs to enter production in the Inner Sphere
    during the Third Succession War, Baal Defense Solutions' CA1-N Cain and AB3-L
    Abel were also the first new products to be designed by the company under the
    leadership of CEO and Chairman Franklin Holloman. The Cain and the Abels'
    development programs paved the way for the new direction Holloman envisioned for the
    company, focusing heavily on the production of brand new 'Mech designs over the creation of
    variants of preexisting BattleMechs.
    
    Complementing the Cain's focus on medium to close-range brawling, the AB3-L
    Abel was optimized for long-range, indirect fire support. Weighing in at 50 tons just
    like its counterpart, its primary armament consisted of one Baal Defense Slipstream 20
    LRM-10 launcher in each side torso and a Baal Defense Slipsteam 10 LRM-5 launcher in either
    arm. This allowed for a combined simultaneous output of up to 30 long-range missiles, equal
    to that of a TBT-5N Trebuchet or CPLT-C1 Catapult. Unlike these designs,
    however, the Abel's particular launcher configuration allowed the pilot to be more
    granular in determining how many missiles to fire at a target at one time, and gave it
    greater remaining firepower in the event any one of is launchers were disabled.
    
    The AB3-L unfortunately suffered from two primary shortcomings. The first was a lack of
    endurance; with only one ton of ammo available for each launcher, the 'Mech could run dry
    relatively easily during prolonged engagements. Secondly and perhaps more concerningly, the
    AB3-L possessed nothing but two Baal Defense Diamondback 44 medium lasers for dealing with
    foes at closer ranges, making it difficult for the AB3-L to bring down even most light
    'Mechs if they managed to get inside the minimum range of its LRMs.
