    The Hunchback variant generally referred to as HBK-6P was created by techs from the
    Fifteenth Deneb Light Cavalry during the FedCom Civil War, late in the Tikonov campaign. The
    need to censerve heavy autocannon ammo for heavier 'Mechs resulted in the decision to
    replace the AC's of several Hunchbacks with energy weapons. Techs originally intended to
    mount a pair of ER PPCs in each, but the need to save replacement ER PPCs for newer machines
    resulted in the use of standard ones.

    With PPCs as its primary armament, the HBK-6P has twice the range of a normal Hunchback,
    while maintaining equal damage potential. A pair of medium lasers provide increased
    firepower at closer ranges, and allow the Hunchback to defend itself if an enemy gets within
    the minimum range of its PPCs. A Guardian ECM Suite provides the HBK-6P with protection from
    more advanced targeting systems, and from scout 'Mechs equipped with Beagle Active Probes.
    Jump jets mounted in the 'Mech's legs increase its a mobility, and, in most situations,
    allow the Hunchback to keep enemies outside the minimum range of its PPCs. Fourteen double
    heat sinks allow the HBK-6P to fire its weapons without fear of overheating.

    Of eight Hunchbacks modified to the HBK-6P standard, only three were functional when the
    Fifteenth Deneb evacuated Tikonov. All three were destroyed in the subsequent fighting on
    Marlette, not long before the Fifteenth surrendered to their combined enemies - the Third
    and Fifth Crucis Lancers, Twentieth Avalon Hussars, and the Blackwind Lancers. While no
    plans currently exist in the AFFS to produce HBK-6Ps, the design specifications have been
    sent to most planetary and March Militias, in case they wish to make similar modifications.
