    Designed as one of the smallest ?juggernaut? models ever created, the Republic of the Sphere
    developed the new Trooper to build on the legacy of the original Trooper that eventually
    became the Flea BattleMech. Designed for infantry support, the new Trooper was a surprise
    for the few Clan units that encountered them during the assault on Terra after Clan Wolf
    found out how to breach the Fortress Wall. IlKhan Alaric Ward is still considering whether
    or not to continue production of this design for his troops.

    Built around one of the smallest engines to ever be mounted on a ?Mech, and combined with an
    Inner Sphere-designed extra light gyro and a Clan-built small cockpit, the neo-Trooper
    needed all the mass it could save for its paltry 3 tons of equipment space. This is due to
    its rugged, reinforced internal structure supported by 9 tons of hardened armor. These two
    features combine to give the design an endurance usually only seen in ?Mechs several times
    it?s size. The resulting frame is very slow, topping out at about 75kph, but this is more
    than adequate for its role as infantry support.
    The primary configuration has a head-mounted improved medium laser and a two-pack of SRM?s
    in each arm fed by a ton of ammunition in the right torso. This provides a varied payload
    that can take on virtually any opponent with a chance of success.

    The Trooper saw limited deployment during the assault on Earth by Clan Wolf and Clan Jade
    Falcon. All units were destroyed, but most took at least 3 Clan machines with them, with
    some claiming up to a binary or more before they were taken out.

    The TPR-1001 model replaces the SRM?s with two pairs of extended range small lasers, while
    the head mounted laser is replaced with an extended range model. This model is intended
    primarily as an anti-?Mech/anti-armor model for use in confined terrain, such as urban
    The TPR-1002 is designed to take on hordes of infantry, with pairs of light machine guns in
    each arm backed by a single micro-pulse laser in each arm. The machine guns are fed by a
    half ton of ammo in the right torso, and a standard flamer is mounted in the head.
    The TPR-1003 model has a head mounted Watchdog electronics warfare system, while the arms
    mount a trio of extended range micro-lasers. This model provides some electronic coverage
    for its infantry charges.
    Finally, the TPR-1004 is the dedicated anti-Mech platform, and mounts a trio of medium
    lasers, with one extended range model in each arm and one improved heavy model in the head.
    All configurations lack lower arm and hand actuators so that the arm-mounted weapons can be
    flipped to hit enemies in the machine?s rear arc. The Republic experimented with a unique
    organization with this design, with a demi-company of these ?Mechs assigned to an infantry
    company. Such units usually consisted of 6 Troopers, with one each of the 1003 and 1004
    models, two 1002 models and two of either the 1000 or the 1001 models, depending on the
    combat situation.
