    The Nova Cats took major losses during the Abjuration, especially to the second-line
    Galaxies which made up the bulk of their troops in the Kerensky Cluster. In response to Khan
    West's demand for a powerful but inexpensive second-line assault BattleMech, Nova Cat
    scientists decided to take a proven 'Mech and enhance it. The 'Mech they chose for these
    modification was the Supernova, a 'Mech which is extremely common in Clan Nova Cat.

    The Supernova II is ten tons heavier than its predecessor, but carries the same armament.
    The Nova Cat scientists dedicated most of the additional weight not taken up by the engine
    to add a few more heat sinks and an ECM suite. The last bit of tonnage went into rectifying
    the Supernova's only real flaw: its weak armor. Although the Ferro-Fibrous armor seems to go
    against Khan West's desire for an inexpensive 'Mech, the increase in cost is minimal. This
    is especially true when one compares the cost of repairing a damaged, heavily amored 'Mech
    to the cost of replacing a destroyed, ligtly armored 'Mech.

    Supernova IIs are being deployed in Clan Nova Cat's second line Galaxies, either as command
    'Mechs or as replacements for damaged or destroyed Supernovas. Although the physical
    similarities between the Supernova and Supernova II make it difficult to be sure, it is
    suspected the Clan Wolf-in-Exile also fields several of these machines.
