    Following the success of their Reefback BattleMech, D&K Creation Studios did as many other
    mech design companies do when coming in to a cash flow: Throw a party with flowing liquor
    and a lack of people that would refuse to do silly things. While it was a very enjoyable
    party, it left many people confused as to why some things in the office just appeared in it,
    with the Balsa being one such mech.
    40 tons, 320 rated Extra-light Fusion engine, 8 standard Jump Jets, 7 tons of Stealth Armor,
    and a rather light weapon loadout make it seem almost like an Assassin born again for the
    modern times, but the member of the team that enjoys the ancient design was confirmed to
    have not joined in the festivities.
    Whatever the case, it was look at with a serious eye as to find a niche and if it was to be
    a profitable product to sell. The chosen niche to market it, in this case, is that it is to
    be a leader of a lance of other D&K Creation Studios products such as the Cypress or

    As stated before, the 40 ton frame boasts a large 320 rated XL Fusion engine to allow it to
    attain a maximum speed of 129.6 KPH. Furthermore the 8 standard Jump Jets allows the mech to
    jump a stupendous 240 meters, allowing it to cover most gaps and catch many Light 'Mechs
    flatfooted, let alone its ability to outmaneuver heavier opponents.
    And outmaneuvering the opposition is required with its 7 tons of Stealth Armor and anemic
    weapon loadout. A Streak SRM4 was chosen as the primary weapon, placed in the left torso
    with its singular ton of ammunition allowing it to perform quick strike and fades.
    Furthermore, the arm mounted Medium Pulse Laser allows the pilot of the machine steady
    accuracy regardless of their skill level in a mech as fast as the Balsa.
    Furthermore, to allow the 'Mech to function as a scout for heavier lances, it was decided to
    include both a Guardian ECM for counter E-War capabilities as well as TAG so it could
    reliably mark targets for artillery.
    With both its blistering speed as well as stealth capabilities it was decided to fit in
    double heat sinks to withstand its heat load, even if it is only the standard 10 engine
    mounted ones.
    While incredibly pricey, the decision to market it as both a stealthy scout for heavier
    lances and mercenary companies as well as a Light Lance Leader for D&K's own in house
    products is not one without merit. And while many just say it is a bad ripoff of the
    Assassin, others note that it takes the merits the ancient design has and exemplifies why it
    held the role it did as a Light Hunter.
