Couldn't have put it any better. Great support mech, but what made the original Catapault so good was its ability to fend off those light enough to get close. Even a Spider would carve this up after a few turns. |

This is actually pretty good for large formations; with the JJ's you can always find a good firing perch and you'll have lancemates to pummel anyone who gets close. It has enough firepower to pull it's own weight in a large-scale battle, but there are plenty of Archer variants that can beat this into the ground.
On the other hand, the psychological effect of a mech with no short-range weapons can certainly work to it's advantage, making it a low-priority target. And it makes for very interesting duels (remember, you _can_ hit with LRM's at close range, it's just harder). |

If you take this to a duel than you are either mad, or you have some kind of devilish backup plan. This 'Mech was probably made for large scale operations of first and second succession wars, but in 3025 reality you need a backup weapon, or some bodyguard. LRMs combined with heavy armor and good mobility allow it to act as a superb fire support device, but it's a specialist. A specialist that doesn't allow any alternatives. |

A victim of overspecialisation. Works well in a situation where it only need fire it's lrms into the fray then run. Without a backup weapon, such as a medium laser or two, this will run into enormous difficulties on its own.

Still a good firesupport mech but limited to only that role.
Better armored and with double the ammo but not a single defense weapon and a bit oversinked.
Choose your position on the battlefield carefully and its armor will allow you to empty your bins. |
