The IS version of the clan Ha Otoko suffers dearly from the heavy IS missile racks. To keep the firepower it has to mount an expensive XL engine and so looses the advantage of being a cheap missile thrower. Its relatively thin armor, standard speed and lack of defensive weaponry isn't much of a problem as it is a pure support machine intended to work in greater settings. Don't use this if you have to send out only a hand full of Mechs. The idea of putting in 4 LRM-15 is a very good one. Could have been my! ;-) I would put in CASE (To save my costly plaything from total destruction) and an additional DHS (So i don't have to worry about any heat while blasting away with my missiles as fast as i could). |

Kinda dissapointed. One of the main reasons why I liked the clan version was the durability it had. XL, less armor, and no CASE is not exactly a great idea. I would have switched the LRM 10s and 20s for LRM 15s. This will keep all the firepower while allowing the use of the same ammo and freeing up 2 tons. |

And the Clan version was so good. The ten tons lost to IS LRMs really hurt this design. Slow, XL engined, and with light armor. The lack of close-in weapons doesn't help either.
Still, in a larger fight, this will perform very will as fire support. It's dead if someone gets near it, but anything in good LRM range is going to get hammered. And then the other 'Mechs can finish the job. |

This has lots of LRMs, but cannot defend itself in close. It's totally dependent on it's lancemates for survival. |

Lighter than and capable of throwing more missiles than an Archer. But its totally reliant on its LRMs. Lack of back-up weapons make this thing a definite ammo addict. Still, sixty LRMs can do alot of damage, even to assault mechs.
The armor isnt all that great, though. The torsos can take a hit from a gauss rifle or AC 20 and not be gashed open, but the arms and legs arent as well protected. The speed also seems to be a bit low for a medium weight mech as well. Granted this thing was built to provied fire support, but firesupport mechs also have to be able to run when they start taking serious counter-battery fire.
The heat capacity is adequate, being able to bleed off the heat from an alpha strike without any troubles. Moving and alpha striking could pose problems, but the ammo will run dry long before that happens.
Pairing off two of these with a 'bodyguard' mech or two will work nicely, but I wouldnt want to use this mech as a guerilla mech. |
