As a low cost bodyguard for heavier units (fluff) this Mech isn't bad.
Its speed is sufficient to keep up with the heavy boys and the JJ's will give extra maneuverability. A standard engine keeps down cost and enhances survivability as does the CASE. The good weapons package is lead by a massive gauss rifle supported by two crit seekers and the inevitable mediums. Heat isn't a concern here.
Only things to complain about is the rather thin armor and that small SRM ammo bin.
If you swap the SRM-6's for SRM-4's you'll eliminate the ammo shortage (somewhat) while you're able to raise its armor to 11 tons.
You wouldn't sacrifice much firepower for that. |

Ah the Helios. A pure and simple mech of the line and body guard. It looks great on the TROs as well.
The armor is light, but this 60 tonner is carrying a huge whupping gun and nice backup weapons. Watch the ammo load though, so better to have your supply lines well covered. |

Not a bad design, all things considered.
The weapons load is pretty impressive, offering more and more damage as the mech closes with the target. The gauss rifle is almost expected by this era, but is a good choice on this thing. The medium lasers and SRMs compliment each other, despite the lasers being ER models.
Using a standard engine means that this mech would survive an ammo explosion, CASE included.
The armor is a shade shy, but is still though enough to withstand mid-sized weapons, AC 10's, medium lasers, etc.
The speed is somewhat low for its weight, somehow I expected a 60 ton mech to be a tad quicker. The use of jump jets kind of offsets that, but not quite.
This mech would be a good additon to most lances, but doesnt have the speed for a fast recon lance. |

One of the more intelligent later designs; this is a 'mech o the line in the purest sense. The hail of Gauss shells a lance of these could produce would be staggering. Just don't wander too far from the J-27s. The armor is a bit thin, but remember this is only a small heavy and it's carrying a very heavy main gun. |

I've always liked this. Nice and solid.
The good:
Firepower: Plenty. It starts off at long lange with a Gauss Rifle with 2 tons of ammo. Then the 2 ER medium lasers chime in. Then, finally, the twin SRM6's come into action. A total of 41 probable points of damage. Not too shabby, to put it mildly.
What's more, it can still walk and keep all that cool.
Mobility - while not a fast mover, it does feature jump jets. It may just be me, but I've always been partial to jump jets.
The bad:
Armor - it's low at only 9 tons (144 pts.). Even one more ton would make a significant difference. Unfortunately, there is no place to take it from without compromising somewhere else.
Ammo - the Gauss Rifle is adequately equipped with 2 tons, but the twin SRM6's only share one ton between them. That'S not quite as bad as it sounds since with the low armor on this one you probably won't be around long enough to use much more if you try to go toe to toe from the front.
The average:
Suvivability - although armor is modest, it has that always valuable standard engine.
The BV is a tad higher than I would like, but it's probably a good deal. Neither too cheap nor too expensive. You get what you pay for. |
