The Davion variant runs even hotter than the -3R but now has the heatsinks to play around with its PPC´s. Advance with both PPC´s firing and switch to the lasers at shorter ranges while cooling down.

An useful variant with heavy firepower and no ammo problems. It can't handle all it's weapons at once and moving while using both PPCs may still be a problem. The laser offers an easy solution of this, but whatever you do, you always have at least one of your big guns silent is you don't want to build up heat. The 3D Marauder is more suited for mobile warfare than for sniping, so using it as a support for advancing medium or heavy lance would be a good Idea. I just wonder why would the Davions build this when they have the 6D Warhammer, which can do almost the same and last longer. Keep it away from heavy combat and it will cause heavy damage.

MAD-3D - ah, now everyone loves this one. It is easy to see why: with 20 HS, it can now fire the two PPCs with impunity. There is also no nasty ammo to explode. Does this make the design more powerful? In many ways, definitely. It changes the dynamic of the design, leaning it more towards the Brawler category. However, there are some draw-backs which is why I prefer the base chassis - it is seen as much more of a threat, but still mounts the same armour (sufficient, but not really all you'd want on a 75-ton BRAWLER). It will also overheat even more than the base design when trying to fire all 3 primary weapons. Really, the MAD-3R is the better Sniper and there are quite a few Brawlers out there that are more intimidating. All in all, it is an obvious and powerful upgrade, but it doesn't really feel all that great to me, for above reasons.
I do like the fluff explanation for it: the designers wanted to get rid of the autocannon, whose joint was unreliable. I envisage a chin turret, just as the one found on the 3025 MAD-II....

Who says this runs hot?
Long range has you firing 2 PPCs and running for 6 or so turns before any appreciable effects build up.
Short range is covered with the L. Laser and 2 M. Lasers.
This is a very nice 3025 mech, and the laser conversion covers the most glaring problem with the base design.

Ok this MAD runs warm so fire discipline is the way to go. The lack of ammo is VERY nice as Marauders attract lots of fire and greatly boost the mech's toughness.
The armor is a tad light, but the lack of ammo has removed the chance of an ammo bin hit which is great.
