Overview:
Etna Industries, a Federated Sun corporation known for experimental concepts and reverse
engineered clan technology, began its ultimate vanity project in the Fortalice. This began
after reports of the foreign corporation, Rhodes Industry, had finally made a commercially
and tactically viable Super-Heavy battlemech. Wanting to provide a domestically produced
alternative, Etna industries immediately began efforts to create their own version. More
then that, they wanted to succeed where others had failed, aiming to create the heaviest
mech the Inner Sphere would ever see.

They took lessons from their predecesors, such as using a tripod design to allow 360 torso
twisting and thus largely negate the threat of flankers. Additionally, an expanded crew was
incorporated to make piloting easier, with a pilot, gunner, and tactician. The FTL-1S
expanded upon this concept as at 200 tons it had enough internal space for three additional
support crew to assist the Mechwarriors in operating the behemoth. This internal space also
allowed the mech to act as a mobile supply depot by carrying up to 200 tons of cargo and
supplies. This lets it act as a forward supply depot during spear-thrust assaults into
enemy lines, helping keep momentum from faultering.

The Fortalice was not marketed as a battlemech. Its design had evolved into being a
Semi-Mobile fortress, capable of air-space denial and long-range bombardment in any theater
it was placed. A haven to repair and rearming for allies or an anvil to break enemy
momentum. Many generals were skeptical of these claims, especially while costing 1/3 of a
billion c-bills. However, it found enough favor that Etna was able to secure a contract
that allowed it to recouperate its development costs and now creates a slow but steady
stream of these behemoths. While its viability is still a major point of debate, there is
no denying the awesome power it carries with it to any theater of war.

Capabilities:
With 80 tons of Hardened Armor with C.A.S.E. II, the Fortalice has rear armor on par with
most assault-class mech's frontal defenses. This also gives it considerable resistance to
piercing forms of attack, making this a very reliable form of defense that many opponents
will simply lack the ability to get through. This gives it free reign to continously
unleash its variety of clan-grade long range weaponry.

Its primary offensive tools are two arm-mounted Arrow IV launchers, wepaons capable of
immediately neutralizing many light to medium mechs in a single volley. These are supported
by four LRM-15 batteries equipped with Artemis IV guidance system, letting the FTL-1S deny
local airspace to anything that would try to harrass it. To prevent these systems from
being disabled by jaming devices, it is equiped with three ECCM suites.

Deployment:
The Fortalice should avoid being used as a traditional mech, something that is trying to
keep up with more mobile forces. Instead it can find its niche as a utility piece, offering
a mix of artillery, air-space denial, and supply point. When it becomes the focal point of
combat, its role is as a Missile boat, sitting in the distant back lines and raining
absolute destruction on an enemy that gets hit by a TAG. Doing this it can have a nearly
battlewide presence despite barely moving. Of note, if an enemy does try to melee this
giant, they will quickly realize that its fists can hit as hard as an AC 20 due to the sheer
    mass behind them.

Variants:
FTL-1T: This version replaces one ECM suite and five tons of armor with communication
equipment in its left torso, giving a total of 7 tons of equipment. This allowed for it to
reliably establish satelite uplink and further enhance its role as a command center. BV2.0
    4,718. Cost: 367,058,000.

Notable MechWarriors:
Lennox "Temper" Lane: When her unit was assigned to the new mech, Lennox was
immediately concerned. She was a mech warrior with a history of using long ranged weaponry,
but being relegated to artillery duty felt like a waste of her talents. She became infamous
while following behind an allied push through enemy lines when an Urbanmech somehow managed
to flank her. Its AC/20 barely scratched the behemoth, but Lennox was annoyed enough to
unload the entirety of her weapon arsenal into it. This being spotted by an escort mech,
she earned the call-name of "Temper" for the sheer overkill of the action. Over the coming
decades, Lennox found that she gained an appreciation for her oversized mount and its role,
despite never growing fond of her nickname.

Quirks: the following Quirks are recommended if using these rules:
Rumble Seat x 3 (0 points) - this mobile battlement is more akin to an ancient Terran
WW2 bomber with room for various support crew (these do not have mechanical benefit).
Poor Performance (-3 points) - this unit was not built for speed and must spend a
turn walking before it can run.
Command Mech (+2 points) - small initiative bonus to allies
Internal Hoists (+1 point: custom) - this mech can carry cargo as if it had two Lift
Hoists equipped. Additionally, this is considered to be carried internally and critical
damage can destroy this content (Inspired by Searchlight quirk)
