Overview:
    The Star Ranger is a peculiar test design from the twilight years of the Star League,
    experimenting with making BattleMechs that could accept weapon systems above what their
    tonnage could usually allow. This was accomplished through an external modularity system
    that allowed handheld weapons as well as weapons linked in through bespoke ports on the
    various torso locations.
    
    The Amaris Civil War ensured the Star Ranger was forgotten, buried as one of those Star
    League-era prototypes that never materialized into a true production run. It would only be
    taken seriously in the wake of the Jihad, with several powers seeing it as a clever way to
    sidestep Stone's demilitarization policies. Even the Republic of the Sphere itself would use
    the 'Mech, if only for civilian peacekeeping.
    
    If any Star Ranger prototypes were taken with Kerensky's Exodus, it's likely that they
    contributed to the genesis of the OmniMech.
    
    (My personal take on an Unseen based on VOTOMS' Scopedog, with the original machine's
    modularity baked in.)

Capabilities:
    While unarmed by default, the Star Ranger was planned to have an extensive modular weapons
    system that could support any platform that was made to be compatible with it. This would
    not materialize until the Republic era, when experiments with handheld weapons for other
    designs saw the re-visitation of the Star Ranger.
    
    All weapons added via this system have the Modular Weapon design quirk, with handheld ones
    in particular also having Jettison-Capable Weapon.
    
    The most common weapon options were the ones the system was demonstrated with to potential
    investors: an AC/2 rifle with one ton of ammunition and two left torso-mounted small lasers.
    This would be updated with the first Dark Age-era loadout, now being an Ultra AC/2 rifle
    with one ton of ammo and two ER Small Lasers instead.
