Variants:
    A Dervish variant few remember was an older Lyran Commonwealth model, the DV-4S . Built on
    the frame of the original Dervish, but equipped as a general combat line trooper and
    skirmisher, this model Dervish was far different from the original DV-1A that proceeded it.
    Newer technology advances allowed greater ground speed and increased jump capacity, as well
    as heavier armor coverage, and increased heat dissipation capabilities. Gone were the
    long-range missile racks. In there place were energy weapons: a Parti-Kill particle cannons
    in the right torso, and a trio of medium lasers, mounted one in each arm and the final one
    in the left torso.
    
    The arm mounts would remain for centuries, but the torso mounted weapons did not remain for
    long. It was quickly found that although the torso mount aided the PPC at long-range shots
    (quirk: Improved Targeting: Long (PPC)), it hindered any attempts to fire up close (quirk:
    Poor Targeting: Short (PPC)). Additionally, being mounted so close to the fusion core in
    such a confined space prevented it from having an effective cooling system (quirk: Poor
    Cooling Jacket (PPC)). Therefore, Coventry engineers quickly set about working on a design
    to replace this machine, an effort which would result in the Alfar BattleMech a few decades
    later. Between that design and the Griffin BattleMech, the DV-4S Dervish was rapidly
    confined to the annals of history.
