Overview:
    Archon Trillian Steiner faced an uphill battle at the dawn of the IlClan era. Her realm had
    suffered tremendous loss, her forces were in disarray, and some had even broken from the
    realm, and many systems thought they could best serve themselves by breaking away from the
    Commonwealth. As she pondered how to bring the realm back together, she did as so many other
    national leaders had done before, and looked to the past to raise her citizens’ patriotic
    fervor. One of her efforts was to re-introduce the ancient BattleMech design known as the
    Alfar.

Capabilities:
    The original Alfar was a Lyran attempt to make their own iconic 55 ton design. The new Alfar
    shares much with that original design; 55 tons, one large energy weapon, a trio of lasers,
    and a missile rack, good speed and mobility. But this time, the design is built by multiple
    locations around the Commonwealth, out of materials that are more common than before.
    
    The new Alfar is built on a heavily reinforced internal skeleton that is far more resilient
    versus damage, but weighs far more than the original endo-steel frame. This is covered by an
    armored shell of heavy ferro-fibrous plate, and its beating heart is a extralight clan-tech
    equivalent of the CoreTek fusion core that can drive this machine at speeds up to 86 kph.
    Unlike its predecessor that was limited to leaps of 90 meters, the new Alfaro’s jump jets
    can make leaps up to 150 meters at a time.
    
    For a weapons package, the engineers started with a clan-tech equivalent of an
    extended-range PPC. This powerful weapon is backed by a trio of advanced medium X-pulse
    lasers, and a single six-pack short-range missile launcher, also of Clan-tech
    specifications. The missile rack is fitted with an Artemis IV fire control system and is fed
    from a single ton ammunition bay protected by advanced CASE systems. 12 double heat sinks
    can bleed most of the heat generated by these weapons, as long as the pilot is smart in
    their use.

Deployment:
    The new Alfar is produced at every major BattleMech manufacturer in the Lyran Commonwealth,
    and at least a lance to a company’s worth have been assigned to most units of the LCAF.

Variants:
    The A9 model of the Alfar exchanges the heavy ferro-fibrous armor plate for
    ballistic-reinforced plating. Due to the denser structure of this armored plate, the
    engineers exchanged the three medium X-pulse lasers for clan-tech equivalent extended-range
    models in the left arm, and a similar smaller laser in the head. This tradeoff actually
    worked in their favor because of the lower heat of these weapons in comparison to the
    X-pulse lasers, as they were also required to remove the extra double heat sinks they had
    installed in the A7 model.
