Overview:
The SLDF High Command developed the Night Hawk during the Reunification War to hunt down
Periphery 'Mech units raiding behind SLDF lines. The High Command wanted the new 'Mech to
have energy-based weapons for maximum field endurance.
In May of 2565 Defiance Industries and Mountain Wolf BattleMechs, a newcomer in the field
of BattleMech production, submitted designs to the SLDF High Command for the new 'Mech. The
High Command had both companies build prototype 'Mechs, which the High Command then put
through six months of grueling combat trials. In January of 2566, the High Command chose the
Mountain Wolf design and placed an order for 700 units.
Mountain Wolf delivered the first of the new 'Mechs, christened the Night Hawk, in
October 2566. The Night Hawk received its baptism by fire in December of the same year and
served with the SLDF for more than two centuries. After the fall of the Star League, the
'Mech saw action with various House militaries until August 2945, when Marik BattleMech
forces destroyed Mountain Wolf's Night Hawk factory. The Night Hawk vanished from Inner
Sphere armies until Brandon O'Leary, great-grandson of Mountain Wolf's last president and
CEO Eli O'Leary, reopened Mountain Wolf BattleMechs on the planet Vendrell in April of 3055.
In November of that year, Mountain Wolf delivered the first new Night Hawks to the Federated
Commonwealth.
Capabilities:
Built for fast-response and raiding duties, the Night Hawk accomplishes both these missions
well. It is as fast as the Stinger and the Wasp, but better armed and armored than its
lighter cousins. The Night Hawk uses tested and reliable components, making it easy to
maintain. To help the Night Hawk survive extended combat, the design team at Mountain Wolf
gave the 'Mech maximum armor protection with ProtecTech Light BattleMech armor, a proven and
respected product.
The 'Mech's primary weapons are the Maxell extended-range large laser and the Defiance
large laser. These weapons give the Night Hawk great striking power, as well as the ability
to deliver devastating damage that most light 'Mechs cannot withstand. Completing the Night
Hawk's weapons is a Defiance medium pulse laser.
Deployment:
The Night Hawk is deployed along the Jade Falcon-Lyran Alliance front, as well as the
Alliance's border with the Periphery. However, the Night Hawk has yet to see combat.
Mountain Wolf recently announced plans to sell a limited number of Night Hawks to select
mercenary units in the next few months.

A premier scout hunter with acceptable speed and a far reaching arsenal of weapons wrapped in a tough shell.
The standard laser was put in to get the ability to shoot all its weapons while moving with only minor heat buidup.
But as the range of the ER laser will help to take down speedier mechs i would mount two of them and downgrade the medium pulse to a standard medium so you can fit in another DHS.

A couple of fairly minor modifications could allow you to drop the XL engine out of this. Drop two heat sinks, the medium pulse laser, and upgrade to ferro fibrous armor and drop half a ton there and you can stick a standard engine in. As it is, it'd be a decent scout hunter, but too vulnerable and expensive for your average unit.

Decent scout hunter, with the potential to participate in some scout missions with its 6/9 speed. I'd argue that in 3050+ though you need 7/11+ or 6/9/6 to truly be an effective scout mech.
Still even at 6/9 this mech can keep an opposing scout in range long enough to pound them to scrap.
The armour is heavy enough to play with scout mechs too, but in a pinch this could fight with the mediums.

A lance of these would make an effective hunter-killer unit. The ER laser will let the mech do some sniping, while the standard and pulse laser give the mech more damage potential up close. The armor isnt the best ive seen, switching to FF would help greatly. Keep your eye on your heat in this mech. A couple of alpha strikes, and this thing is going to be running a tad toasty.

This mech has a decent armour load but is a bit on the slow side .The weapon load-out of an ER and a standard large laser backed up by a Medium pulse laser gives it a fair hit potential
