Overview:
    Originally designed for the Star League Defense Force as Hollis Incorporated's first foray
    into the BattleMech field, the Catapult would prove a highly successful design over the next
    several centuries, even after the original manufacturing plant on Corey was destroyed during
    the First Succession War. At the turn of the millennium, however, Hollis was able to return
    the design to production on a limited basis after approximately three decades of only being
    able to manufacture limited spare parts, reversing the design's extinction fully, though by
    that point several variants of the basic design were in at least limited bespoke production
    across the entire Inner Sphere, and the original design would be superseded by advanced
    variants produced with recovered "LosTech" only a few decades later.
    
    Entering service only late in the Jihad, the-7D model of the Catapult boasted a pair of
    fifteen tube Enhanced long range missile launchers with four tons of CASE-protected
    ammunition and a quartet of medium X-Pulse lasers as backup weapons. Ten double heat sinks
    provided adequate cooling for the mech's weapons load, though sustained close combat was not
    recommended. In order to free the necessary weight the -7D was built on an Endo Steel frame
    and used an Extra Light engine. It also utilized a redesigned cockpit assembly which
    functioned as a completely sealed escape pod rather than a traditional ejection seat, a
    feature which would persist on future Davion models of the Catapult.
    
    Despite there being absolutely nothing wrong with the design, the -7D was haunted by
    persistent rumors of ejection failure, catastrophic ammunition detonations, and other
    various issues-all entirely unfounded-which resulted in pilots, and shortly thereafter
    procurers, shunning the machine. Archernar would ultimately halt production of the -7D after
    less than a decade, and the design would be one of the few since the Catapult's return to
    production to be declared fully extinct-barely twenty years after its initial introduction.
