Speed and JJ´s are acceptable and the weaponry is really heavy for its weight. To wrap all this in 3 tons of armor wouldn´t be such a problem but an XL? XL, light armor and moderate speed are a very bad combination. If you want a cheap militia mech: Don´t take an XL, it saves you only 2tons. Drop the small lasers and downgrade the SRM to a 4-rack to get a cheap militia workhorse. If you want to keep the XL make it faster. Drop the JJ´s to get a speed of 10/15 + 0,5 tons of armor. You can even make the armor FF, put DHS´s in and upgrade the lasers to ER.

The XL is not worth the investment here. The mech is still too slow and the armor too light, even the 6 jump and heavy weapons (for a light) won't save this design. |

48 points was considered the weakest acceptable armor in 3025. Now the competition is faster and has better weapons and this has: an XL engine. It doesn't exactly have the speed to be moving so slowly, and it overheats every time it jumps and fires in the same round. At least the Wasp and Stinger have some dignity. |

If the Cossack would have managed to accomplish it's 6/9/6 speed and weaponry loadout without an XL engine, I'd consider this design a winner. Decent armor, outstanding firepower, decent speed, that'd work for me.
Unfortunately, it does have an XL, which makes it both expensive and fragile. Provided you dont hit ammo, you can rip a sidetorso off of a Stinger or Wasp, and expect it to keep on ticking. No such luck with this thing.
When mounting an XL, you either want to increase your speed or your weaponry. You'll want to increase your weaponry on heavier designs, while you want to add speed to your lighter designs.
Adding weaponry to a somewhat slow light design is asking for trouble.
Still, don't discount the Cossack. Against other lights, it'll dish out some serious firepower and hurt. It can dish it out, but it can't take it. If you keep that in mind, you're fine. |

This one must have been the result of bribes placed to the requisition committee responsible for light 'mechs. There's no other excuse for it. |
