Overview:
All information transcribed from Technical Readout 3085.

Like many things war-oriented in the Draconis Combine, the Yasha started off in the hands of
Luthien Armor Works. In the mid-3060s, the company tried to develop an Omni VTOLtol, but
were unable to achieve that goal. After the chaos that engulfed LAW, aerospace manufacturer
Wakazashi Enterprises bought the rights to this VTOL for a minimal sum. Wakazashi likewise
failed to produce a successful Omni platform, but its engineers realized that the Yasha was
a stable platform that could be used for multiple factory variants. Rather than write off
the entire project, the company told its designers to go forward with three versions that
could fill various roles. To reflect the framework’s multi-role flexibility, the marketing
department named it after a class of nature spirits from Buddhist and Hindu mythology.

Capabilities:
Though slow when compared to most VTOLs and many WiGE, the Yasha is swift enough to stay
away from most enemy fire and still line up a decent shot. Its strategic speed is even
faster, enabling it to ignore ground terrain and cover a larger area. In addition to the
axiom that VTOLtols use speed for armor, Wakazashi has done a good job protecting the Yasha
in case that primary protection fails. Three and a half tons of heavy ferro-fibrous armor
protects it better than four tons of standard armor would. Should its ammunition be
detonated, the crew and vehicle can still be salvaged thanks to CASE protecting the
ammunition bays (depending, of course, on how high they were flying).

The main feature of the Yasha is its weaponry. A heavy particle cannon mounted in the nose
gives it plenty of penetration power with no need to worry about ammunition. The cannon’s
range allows the VTOL to avoid close-range enemy fire, but its C3 slave module gives it high
accuracy at longer distances. A light machine gun was added as a back-up weapon and to
provide anti-infantry capability. Some eyebrows were raised when Wakazashi purchased the
Yasha’s machine gun system from Clan Nova Cat manufacturers, but it has since been proved
to be a downgraded version in line with Inner Sphere models. Designers wanted to use another
energy weapon, but the heat load on the Yasha was already using up almost 20 percent of its
    mass.

Deployment:
With the state of the Combine economy, purchasing VTOLtols, no matter how good, was not a
high priority. Collecting taxes was, and so Wakazashi received approval to sell the Yasha
not only to all Inner Sphere powers, but to some Clans as well. Given the design’s
connection to the Nova Cats, it is expected that the Cats will be heavy buyers of the Yasha.

Variants:
While plans exist for several variants, only two are currently being manufactured. The first
is an interdictor platform, outfitted with large amounts of electronic warfare hardware. An
active probe enhances detection, while the ECM can disrupt enemy systems or defend against
enemy ECM disruption of friendly networks. A pair of seven-tube multi-missile launchers with
three tons of ammunition provides considerable flexibility and decent firepower. An Artemis
IV targeting system increases precision, and this variant retains the hefty armor of the PPC
    Yasha.

The third version is being marketed as the Spectre, and it lives up to that name. While most
warriors are lukewarm about the light Gauss rifle, all are wary of the range it possesses.
The addition of stealth armor and the light Gauss allows this variant to become a deadly
battlefield sniper while remaining almost untouchable. A targeting computer was added to
increase accuracy. The stealth armor does not provide nearly as much protection as the thick
heavy ferro-fibrous armor of the standard Yasha, but this version properly used should never
be in a position to take nearly as many hits as the other variants.
