Thats a real Steiner upgrade! Rip out something and put a BIG weapon in. Its more in line with the original fighting style of the MAD doing its damage from afar. The rather light armor and the XL forces its pilot to keep the enemy at arms length but your firepower is strong enough to shoot almost any advancing mech to pieces before it comes too close. A real big problem of this one is its small ammo bin. 8 shots are too little for a weapon of that range. |

Probably the best of 3050 marauders that keeps the original role as a sniper and nicely upgrades on it to keep up with the technology upgrades. It's also the one where the XL engine doesn't feel entirely wasted. I'm not sure why everyone was so infatuated with the MPLs at the time however as here the additional gauss ammo and armour would have kicked it stright to 5 points of perfection. |

A nice upgrade. Perhaps the one with the most potential in the 3050 lines of MAD.
I would kill the med pulses for 2 regular meds, another ton of ammo and 1 more ton of armor, preferably the FF kind.
Then you will have a mech that can output enough firepower to knock even clanners around. |

For 8 rounds its the perfect mech in 3050. After that it becomes a more expensive and less manuverable Whammer. With short range in close weapons which isn't much of an issue. I'd kill for 2 Mediums and 2 more tons of Guass Ammo or something along those lines.
Maybe 3 ER Mediums and a ton of Guass ammo just to make it work better. It needs something to make it better. I can't put my finger on it.
Either way its just average as it stands. You need to use its guass to maximum advantage which means firing it every round. But this means your going to run out of ammo quickly. |

A bit better than the 5M, but not by much. The PPCs are good, heck, the original did a nice job with PPC-medium laser combos, so why mess with it?
The gauss rifle is probably not the best choice for a ballistic weapon. The range and damage are impressive for the heat, but there is ONE ton of ammo for it. Eight shots, after that, youre totally reliant on your PPCs for range. Fifteen times the heat, for less damage...but you get an extra hex of range. Im not sure that its all that great of a trade...
For a sniper, this is going to be a pretty good design, with the mech able to fire both PPCs and gauss rifle in one salvo. Thats damage that most assault mechs have trouble dealing with. |
