Not bad for a Liao-Frankenmech! The PPC / AC/10 combination gives it a good punch at reasonable range (in my eyes! :D ) and medium lasers are always a good backup. And it has a good heat dissipation capability even if an alphastrike would get it some heat. The only thing to complain about is the rather light armor especially on the side torsos. I would take 2 points out of each arm and leg to bring the sides up to 20. Or you can drop a rearfiring laser and/or a heatsink. |

The CTF-1X is primarily a short range brawler, although it could use some more armour. I can't agree with those who say that the 'Mech has a good medium range punch, because the ammo load prevents the AC from inflicting much damage at range before it's silenced. As soon as it gets closer it can reliably deal about 20 damage, which isn't bad, but you need to keep an eye on the heat scale. I don't think that the Cataphract can regularly perform well alone. It doesn't have the firepower to deal with most heavies at long range or the armour to get closer (or survive a dance with an AC/20 Juggernaut). The best use for the CTF, IMO, would be pairing with other common CCAF heavies like the Catapult or Marauder and Warhammer Ls. They may lack the heavy armour of the Thunderbolt or Orion, but they can provide the long range cover while the Cataphract can work as a short range protector. It isn't the best heavy around, but it can get the job done and that counts. Especially with house Liao. |

I have always like this mech for its looks and weapons load.
the only thing that keeps it from being a 5 is that is comes from Capellan space. |

This mech really isn't my style. Not because of its old tech, but because of the AC/10 PPC combo. Its barely 20 damage at range. To me this just lacks the punch I like, but then I know its just me too :P
So 3.0 should do it. |

For a 3025 heavy mech this thing is mostly gravy. Take the two rear facing lasers, remove one, center the other get another ton of AC 10 ammo. That'd make it 5 star.
As it stands this mech lets house Laio have the cheapest mech that can beat on Assault class designs in the entire Inner Sphere.
If I could be convinced to play Laio more, I'd have this mech in every company I designed. Even with the AC 10 ammo restriction, and me playing campaigns almost always. |
