Overview:
One of the last designs made as part of the 3065 A.E.G.I.S. (Air Enforcement & Ground
Insurance Systems) initiative during its last year, the WRN-9PL "Wrangler" was actually put
in production after the initiative's official end. Designed from the ground up as a
dedicated C3 Slave unit and the new backbone of Task Force Talon's operations, the tank was
developed in parallel and close coordination with the EQL-6C3M "Equalizer" which would carry
the C3 Master unit.
Using a light fusion engine, the Wrangler ended up more than achieving its goals. With
initially small deployments in the Jihad, the model was an almost instant success among
frontliners, each of the tank's parts complementing the other and altogether three of them
connected to an Equalizer forming an incredibly dangerous force that could not only
withstand but even push back against opponents well above the lance's weight class.
In time, the WRN-9PL "Wrangler" would become TFT's most commonly fielded main battle tank.
By 3081, the end of the jihad, the number of Wranglers had reached such numbers that
alternative C3 Master units had been developed as cheaper alternatives to the EQL-6C3M as a
means of maintaining the ever-important advantage of the network and tactics that made the
Wrangler so effective.
Capabilities:
The WRN-9PL "Wrangler" is a deceptively simple vehicle. The guardian ECM protects the C3
against jamming while said C3 network can allow it to negate the severe range penalties of
its weapon. This practically means that, given proper positioning, it can fire its Large
Pulse Laser at max range without any range penalties. Coupled with the innate benefits of a
Pulse Laser, it the WRN-9PL "Wrangler" is far more capable of firing on the move at fairly
distant targets than most of its class.
Furthermore, the WRN-9PL "Wrangler" is both fast and well armored for its weight, ensuring
that it can leverage the ability to keep moving to its full potential. Hard to hit, hard to
kill, hard to debilitate and hard to escape; a formation of WRN-9PL "Wrangler" tanks can be
a force to be reckoned with even against a foe who knows what's coming.
Deployment:
The WRN-9PL "Wrangler" is best used as a shock and awe unit. Though expensive in BV, a lance
of three Wranglers with even only a decent C3 Master unit, can easily pose a severe threat
to just about anything on the field. If the enemy uses overlapping ECM fields to try and
negate the advantages, it is recommended to punish them by simply overlapping the Wranglers'
own ECCM fields over them while using superior mobility to outflank and outmaneuver the
grouped up targets.
If the enemy tries to rely on speed and evasion, it is best to have one tank maintain them
at short range of the C3 network while the others temporarily slow down or stand still to
minimize their own movement penalties. The impromptu 'snipers' should then use the C3 range
and the Pulse laser to-hit bonus to strike at the target accurately without much regard for
distance.
Alternatively, if the hostiles rely on heavy armor and tonnage, it becomes easy to always
strike at the flank with all three tanks. Assuming that the enemy does not have 3 or more
ECM suites, it is even advisable to use ghost target generation with one (or more, if
possible) of the Wranglers in order to debilitate the enemy that much further.
All of these tactics, however, rely on the one major downside of the WRN-9PL "Wrangler". It
is entirely dependent on the C3 Network and ideally, other Wranglers. While still a fast,
heavy hitting armored tank on its own, it becomes significantly limited by its lacking
range. Similarly, if its supporting C3 units are too slow or too fragile, the Wrangler will
quickly find itself either isolated and focused upon as a priority target or shackled in
support of its own allies. In that manner, the WRN-9PL "Wrangler" is strategically
inflexible and necessitates careful planning around its assignment.
Variants:
The WRN-9PL "Wrangler" has no variants due to its perhaps excessively specific design.
Attempts to potentially create a C3 Master variant have been made but all ended up largely
in failure as it is simpler to use existing designs that were made as C3 Masters to begin
with.
