Overview:
Envisioned as a hybrid command assault vehicle, the FRN-56CV "Frontier 56" was designed with
the words 'lead from the front' in mind. One of the precious few instances where the
original project's goal was actually met without much in the way of compromise, the
inspiration for the design came from the obscure CRSH-44-SAG variant of the Crusher II, a
decision that was initially met with doubt and skepticism but soon proved its worth in saved
armor weight that would be needed for a more conventional turret.
Often acting as the main command unit for armored formations, the key feature of the
FRN-56CV "Frontier 56" is its ability to match the full speed of the CVL-45 "Cavalier 45"
and its various variants, enabling commanders a frontline position without reducing the
mobility of their forces. Similarly, the additional armor compared to the aforementioned
Cavalier 45 and its variants allows that same commander to command with relative safety
despite being in the heat of battle.
This, paired with the FRN-56CV's extensive communication equipment, has earned it a solid
reputation as a versatile and reliable tool in battle. Despite its underwhelming armaments,
its ability to project an ECCM field and produce ghost targets has repeatedly proven more
valuable than the extra firepower, allowing allied units to compensate with their own
weapons. A fact that many a tank crew has expressed silent gratitude for as they line up
another shot.
Capabilities:
The FRN-56CV "Frontier 56" has the capacity to support allied units with Electronic Warfare
at a fairly cheap cost. Well armored and still able to deal a modest amount of damage, it
can help manipulate the battlefield in its user's favor in ways that would normally
necessitate a more expensive or potentially fragile unit. Coupled with decent speed, it can
prove far move versatile than its weapons might imply.
Deployment:
The FRN-56CV "Frontier 56" allows for a variety of tactics and uses but needs to be kept
near the front to do so effectively. Neutralizing enemy ECM or producing ghost targets when
ECM isn't present, it can level the playing field and survive doing so for a respectable
amount of time despite its humble nature as a simple combat vehicle. That said, it is no
superheavy and it lacks heavy firepower of its own, meaning that, no matter the situation,
it should not be left to act alone. At least not for long.
Variants:
The FRN-56CV "Frontier 56" has no variants; the design was too specialized for its purpose
to allow any modifications with which to create variants of any type.
Notable MechWarriors:
None; even if a vehicle crew did attain fame, it would only be in the territories of the
Blackshield Company and thus of no significance to the major powers.
