This frame answers the question, "Why does the Strormbolt weight 30 tons?" The answer is because based on the original specs, this is the original Stormbolt. The large laser didnt make it past the wishful thinking stage, but otherwise this is the best design given the design criteria. So of course once the requirements were relaxed and a cheaper engine sourced, it makes sense to retain the original airframe rather then optimize for the relaxed standards that turned into the Stormbolts main production branch.
Hopefully the Black Shield Company never upgrades to advanced technology. An XL engine and Ferro-Fibrous armor would free up the tonnage for the Stormbolt to achieve its earliest goals. |
