Overview:
Imported from TRO project Zhukov by steve cross.

With fewer Mechs there was fewer ways of moving Elementals quickly
around the battlefield and Mechs were the only method that front-line forces
carried Elementals into battle, outside of the Hells Horses. The Horses made
extensive use of the Svantovit IFV but its fragility under fire and the need to
come to a complete halt during troop deployment less there be a serious risk of
a crash was a major drawback.
What was needed was a vehicle that could safely transport Elementals
whilst under fire and be able to engage targets with its own weapons if needed
that didn?t suffer from the worrying fragility of the Svantovit. What was needed
was a tracked vehicle that could keep up with friendly Mech forces and be able
to engage targets whilst supporting its Elementals and not be as fragile as most
    transports.

Capabilities:
Protected initially by 10 tons of standard plate armour the design was
heavily protected and would rival larger and heavier tanks like the Oro and
Ishtar for protection. The choice was also made to mount the turret on the
forwards part of the hull, this did limit its arc of fire somewhat but with no
penetration of the main hull the infantry compartment was quite spacious, a
drastic improvement over the Svantovit where Elementals had to enter the tank
side on. On the new design they would enter and exit through a large door in
    the rear.

Initially the design came in at 55 tons and would be armed with a
heavy bore autocannon and supporting weapons for long range
engagements but this had to change due to a requirement for the IFV to
be able to fit into a light vehicle bay which were only capable of holding
and servicing a vehicle of up to 50 tons. This had to be done whilst
retaining the speed, firepower and protection levels already on the
    design.
Whilst still being able to carry 5 Elementals at 86kph the redesigned
version was armed with an KOV Pattern 3 LB autocannon as well as an
LRM-15 for long range engagements. Two light machine guns were also
fitted in the commander?s cupola whilst firing ports were also fitted to
allow two Elementals to fire their guns forwards from the troop
    compartment.
The armour was also replaced with 8.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous plate
armour and the hull was shortened and roadwheels and tracks altered in
    an effort to save weight.

Deployment:
Whilst lacking the electronics installed in the prototype the lighter
vehicle still performed well but there were other drawbacks. The 55-ton
version was far roomier and whilst the placement of the turret forwards of
the troop compartment instead of atop it reduced the vehicles height and
lowered its center of gravity, it was also quite cramped. The smaller
50-ton version whilst still filling the criteria for firepower, speed, protection
and carrying capacity was now a veritable sardine can for its crew and
the Elementals in the back could no longer dismount from their
suits. This changed the role of the vehicle from moving troops long
distances to simply transporting them on the battlefield.
Other changes saw the crew cut down from four to three with a driver,
gunner/loader and commander but this barely increased room in the
    cramped fighting compartment.
Despite this discomfort that Inner Sphere crews would regard as
positively claustrophobic the design still showed a great deal of
promise. Named the Nike after the Greek Goddess of Victory the new
IFV was deployed for testing and familiarization and took part in several
Trials against Clan Ice Hellion and Clan Goliath Scorpion where the
durability and firepower of the Nike as well as it being able to deploy a
Point of Elementals at speed without relying on fragile hovercraft or
valuable Mechs came as an unpleasant surprise.
The weight saving allowed the Nike to be carried on smaller
DropShips and larger craft could carry two of them in a large vehicle
bay. The newly developed Pallas shuttle could carry two Nike?s
underneath in an atmosphere or from space to ground in special drop
cocoons allowing for rapid redeployment of forces. This combination of
orbital mobility combined with the Halcyon class cruisers vehicle capacity
added a significant amount of strategic mobility to the Horses
Touman. Although this capacity was rarely used in the Homeworlds,
during Operation REVIVAL once the Wolves activated the Horses as their
Reserve Clan it was used against Rasalhague and FedCom forces on the
defensive and attack. The Nike was rarely seen outside of the Horses Touman as most Clans
preferred to use BattleMechs as their main transport and delivery method for
Elemental Points in battle. Still some were taken as salvage and Isorla and
were pressed into combat whilst Clan Snow Raven used them as a lighter
adjunct to the common Oro with it actually replacing the older tank as a gun
tank, its carrying capacity rarely used.
