Overview:
Its been said that a protomech could accurately mimic the capabilities of an old style Wasp
or Stinger. The Vespoid was created to achieve that goal.
Capabilities:
The W1L variant was not able to mimic the Wasp 1L. It instead has to endure being better
then it. Turns out that nearly 5 centuries of tech development equates to having even more
furepower in less then half the package. The initial specs including an SRM-4 left the W1L
with a considerable chunk of mass left over, enough so that the SRM system could easily be
increased in size. Ammo capacity remains the same by mass, but loses 20% of its salvos.
Which still places it well above the expected battlefield life expectancy of a protomech.
One upgrade that has come about in the past few centuries is better ammo management allowing
a variety of ammo types to be loaded to deal with different situations.
Deployment:
Despite being formally designed, and that battle history to consider, there are no plans to
actually produce Vespoids. Their mobility or firepower is below the thresholds useful in
modern combat.
Variants:
Just how many Wasps and Stingers are there? The modern ones built or rebuilt to keep up
with modern combat are likely out of reach, but even now the majority of the ones in use are
based on star league era models.
