Too many Narc/TAG equipped mechs have this issue. They carry the missiles and the spotting equipment. The only saving grace is that Clanners don't have minimum range on their LRMs.
This is the A variant, except they decided to take down 10 missiles tubes in favor of a NARC system. It all hinges on getting close, planting the beacon, then turning around and running away to a safe distance to start shooting. Then when the target or NARC gets blown up, do it all over again. All this with only 115 armor and no jump jets for that speedy escape. |

All in all the Adder C is a poor brother to A configuration. The Narc beacon may be dead weight but it may at least act as a deterrent. Of course that Artemis would be better and more clan-like, but Narc isn't that bad. Like A configuration, the C lacks any serious backup weapons. The only advantage is longevity, ammo can last for 16 turns, but the amount of missiles is the same, so it must rely on Narc to cause more damage. Single pulse laser is not enough to be considered as an advantage over two smaller lasers on A, so I think that this configuration is not worth the effort under most circumstances. |

This would be a great design for the Inner Sphere- teamwork is necessary to use the NARC to its full potential (and alternate ordnance helps, too). In a one-on-one duel, this would be better off with Artemis. In certain situations where honor rules are relaxed this mech makes a great companion for a star of Puma A's. Since those situations are rare, the mech is seldom used (and doesn't get a great rating). Really, too many mechs mount ECM or AMS to make this variant as useful as the Prime, but it still has good firepower and great heat dissipation.
By the way, the Puma's flamer is fixed equipment- it cannot be repodded. All Puma variants carry the flamer by default. |

What is a flamer doing on this design? And ditto what everyone else already said about the NARC... |

Rip out the NARC gear for Artemis and an ER medium and you've all of a sudden got a respectible light fire support machine. But until that happens this variant just doesn't cut the mustard it needs to last in combat.
Closing the range to get the NARC attached then opening the range to use your LRMs to their fullest is usually a lot harder than it sounds no matter your ground speed.
The Large amount of LRM ammo is nice though. Gives you the kind of preformance you'd expect out of a 3025 Archer almost. |
