The XL doesn't really help much here, saving only 4.5 tons. And you don't need those MGs. Good thing about Omnis is that you can repod them for various uses. Btw this is the coolest running of all the BJ2-Os even with a full alpha and a jump, it remains only at 20 heat. Not too bad.
BJ2-Os only really suffer from poor heatsinks because the engine doesn't really accommodate any DHS for 4/6, thus forcing you to use more ballistic or missile heavy weapons or at least prevent prevalent use of energy weapons, which gives the mech quite a character. That alone nails a 4 from me. |

The base chassis isn´t bad though it has an XL to save only 4 tons and fixed JJ´s. The XL is the price to pay for more than 50% of podspace. Loosing the JJ´s for a standard engine isn´t a good idea because you have nothing to compensate the slow speed any more.
The primary weapon configuration packs a good punch at almost all ranges and superb anti infantry capability. The lack of CASE hurts though (the mech is out of action anyway but you´ve nothing to pull from the field) and your mainguns will eat up that ammo real fast.
Maybe two tons of UAC ammo and a CASE would have been a better choice as the MG´s here. |

This is a decent mech. It's a little slow for an XL, but the JJ's improve its maneuverability. It has weapons for all ranges. The UAC's let you chew up enemies until you can use the lasers to finish them. I personally don't like machine guns, but they do let this mech handle infantry. All in all, this is a solid design. It isn't the greatest design, but it can hold its own. |

With Enforcer-like enthusiasm, the Blackjack manages to be outstandingly mediocre in most configurations. The basic chassis is sound, except for the engine. 4/6/4 on a 50 tonner doesn't warrant an XL engine; a standard would have been less vulnerable. I'll also say that the Blackjack could do with a half ton more armor. Still, only a ton less pod space than the Timber Wolf is pretty good.
Now for this config. The Ultras have a good ammo load, and work well enough as a long range weapon, although they're a bit short in damage. The medium lasers give it a good punch for close range or when the ammo runs out, while the machine guns are a very good defense against infantry. I'd prefer to move the ammo, but that really is a smart place to put it. An ammo explosion will knock out the CT no matter what, and the XL makes CASE kind of pointless. This way, the ammo you'll have the most trouble getting rid of is behind the thickest armor. |

A good concept, but there's a couple of serious flaws here.
First, get some CASE for all of the ammunition. Stripping two of the M.G.s will do it. I seriously doubt that this 'mech needs four machine guns.
Second, move the M.G. ammo out of the center torso. That's just asking for trouble.
Third, since the XL engine is only saving 4.5 tons, scrapping the jump jets and machine guns would let you go to a standard engine. Are machine guns and jump jets really worth taking an XL engine? |
