Overview:
When the Tribune was spotted in Clan Wolf garrison units throughout the occupation zone in
the early 3050s, it was first labelled the Centurion IIC because of its uncanny similarity
to that design. As its OmniMech status became obvious to Inner Sphere pilots facing it in
several different configurations, it was re-coded Tribune.
However, this design, named the Armiger in Clan space, in reality is not based on the
Centurion, but is a product of uncanny parallel development. One of the first Cloud Cobra
OmniMechs built, it was designed around a wholly humanoid parameter that has since been
abandoned in Clan â??Mech aesthetics. This basic layout, based on a medium chassis of
moderate speed with a large ballistic weapon in its right arm in all configurations, just so
happens to resemble the Centurion, designed some 70 years prior to the Tribune. Yet the
Inner Sphere design was first manufactured some 25 years after the Exodus, ruling out the
possibility of any influence whatsoever.
Capabilities:
Indeed, apart from the huge technology advantage of the Clan design, there is very little
difference between the Tribune and the Centurion. Of course, the Clan design was also an
OmniMech, meaning that the difference would be more felt depending on which configuration
was fielded. But indeed, just as the Centurion, the Tribune is a reliable trooper with
powerful weapon systems and great resilience.
The Primary configuration shows the greatest similarity to the Centurion. Just as its Inner
Sphere doppelganger, it mounts a large ballistic weapon in its right arm â?? a Gauss Rifle
â?? and a large LRM launcher in its left torso. The vastly superior range and power of the
Clan systems is augmented by the large ER-Laser mounted in the center torso.
The A configuration mirrors the Prime closely in layout, if not performance. Clearly geared
towards the duels always prevalent in Clan warfare, this â??Mech is incapable of inflicting
damage at distances greater than 360 meters. This is alleviated by the inclusion of jump
jets and the fact that its weapons cause huge damage at closer range, firmly supporting the
theory of it being a duellist.
The next two configurations both seemingly fill a support role, something probably more
related to the utilitarian nature of the base design rather than its intended image. The B
elaborates on the missile capacity, while configuration C drops the torso-mounted weapons of
the multi-purpose Primary configuration for an ERPPC and advanced targeting capacity.
No further configurations of this venerable design are known, though the fact that it still
is common amongst second line units â?? especially of Clan Wolf â?? makes it entirely
possible that new variations utilising new cutting-edge technology will soon debut to the
detriment of it Inner Sphere opponents.
Deployment:
The â??Armigerâ? â?? its name as much part of its image as its looks â?? first entered
service with the Cloud Cobraâ??s Josian and Kaâ??an Cloisters, in the 2870s. It
represented the ideal of the crusading knight; a true extension of all virtues most ardently
sought after by the Clan MechWarriors.
At first, this made it a sought after design. Clan Wolf quickly won a furious Trial of
Possession for the manufacturing specification and rights to supplement their heavier and
faster, but vulnerable Woodsman. In the meantime Clans Burrock and Coyote acquired the same
capacities through trade with their allies (Cloud Cobra and Wolf, respectively).
Since its inception, OmniMechs with superior technology have superseded it. Its slow speed
and correspondingly low weight have left it with no real place on the battlefields where
every opposing unit is either faster or heavier, and often both at the same time! This
development led to a high proliferation both across the Toumans. Today, the Tribune mostly
serves as command units in garrison units of most Clans. Some Clans, most noticeably Jade
Falcon, Steel Viper and Ice Hellion, do not field the design; they never showed interest in
the Tribune even in its heyday due to the narrow mission profile that its slow speed
dictated.

Comment:
For some reason the Tribune B went somewhere else than previous two configurations. I can't see any good reason to add two small LRM launchers. Some backup weapon or other equipment would be better IMO, but heavier AC would also be welcome. I don't know... The shift from Cent to Catapult isn't my cup of tea, but the firepower of the old Longbow cramped into 50 t chassis is still impressive on it's own right.
