Overview:
In 3072, the World of Blake acted in concert with the Taurian Concordat to upgrade their
DBL-1A Diablo BattleMech. Using new and recovered technologies, WoB techs and engineers
gave Taurus Territorial Industries the capability to make the Diablo what it should have
been.
Capabilities:
The -2A Diablo featured Endo-Steel as a weight saving feature. A massive LB-20X auotcannon
was installed in place of the older AC-20, increasing range by one-third. With the weight
savings provided by the endo-steel, designers were able to add CASE and a fourth ton of ammo
(two each of slug and cluster). The final ton was added to the armor, which was completely
replaced with Ferro-Fibrous, giving the DBL-2A more protection than the Griffin, Shadow
Hawk, and Wolverine which were its original inspiration.
As with the original model, the -2A featured no secondary weapons, and while a C3i system
was considered, it was ultimately rejected because of both the weight and space required. A
standard engine was retained to save cost and enhance survivability.
Deployment:
Only thirty-five DBL-2As were produced before the Jihad began in earnst. Following the
asteroid impacts on Taurus, TTI lost both its main factory and schematics to replicate the
design on other worlds as well (though the loss of the schematics may well have been because
of a WoB agent who purged the plants computer systems minutes before the impact).
All thirty-five were assigned to the Pleaides Hussars and Pleaides Lancers as they invaded
the Federated Suns. Over the course of four years of fighting, just seven of the new model
Diablos were left intact.
Variants:
A proposed variant would have downgraded the autocannon to a LB-10X model, reduced the ammo
to 2 tons, and added C3i, an ER medium laser, an ER small laser, and a flamer. None were
ever constructed.
Notable MechWarriors:
Elias Xiang, a MechWarrior in the Pleaides Lancers, distinguished himself during the
fighting for Electra in urban combat. Using his 55-ton Diablos ('Fallen One') superior
maneuverability, he would jump behind AFFS 'Mechs and deliver a devastating blow to their
rear armor with his boom-stick of an autocannon. During that campaign, Xiang destroyed or
disabled fourteen enemy 'Mechs using these tactics. He died just before the completion of
the campaign, however. After withdrawing to rearm at the Lancers forward ammo dump, Xiang
and his 'Mech were consumed in the explosion of nearly a thousand tons of ammunition when a
squadron of Stukas dropped sixty inferno bombs in their midst.

Comment:
Plain and simple upgrade that carried the 'Mech to the new era. I don't think that the FF installation and DHSs were necessary, but they certainly don't hurt. There isn't much place for upgrades now, but I don' think that they are needed. Just get in range and show them who has the stick and who will be beaten.
