Replacing the large laser with the AC/5 is basically a wash in terms of potential damage, as the increased range of the AC/5 will result in more shots hitting their target, especially in the 11-12 range bracket, where the large laser is at long range and the AC/5 at medium range. I might consider scrapping the flamer for another ton of AC/5 ammo, but this 'mech carries too much ammunition for comfort as it is. You could also replace the flamer with a medium laser, which would help to alleviate the loss of point-blank firepower caused by the AC/5's minimum range restrictions. With an extra medium laser, this design might actually have more effective short-range firepower than the 5S design, which doesn't really have the heat sinks to use all of its lasers at close range anyway.
Extra points for the good fluff. I can see Liao using a proprietary non-standard caliber AC/5 (say 46.29mm ;) to keep client states dependent on their arms factories. |

A Thunderbolt-variant i like!
The firepower is somewhat lower but the added range is still nice.
Up close it is less effective but the retained heavy armor will buy it time.
I woud have taken a single MG + 100 shots instead of the flamer, but thats only my preference. |
