Overview:
    This was one of the original designs that came out of Blacknight Industries.  And it's
    ineffectiveness and lack of orders was a good indication of that.  Since its indoctrination
    several years ago, the design has thus been scrapped, and no further production of it has
    been planned, nor has any modifications been planned.
    
    The 'Mech was originally tested by various mercenary units throughout the Inner Sphere
    against House units.  The design failed considerably in almost all aspects, with the
    exception of infantry protection.

Capabilities:
    Intended for use as a close in fighter, it lacked the adequate speed and firepower to make
    it a fearsome design.  It was our hopes that the LRM-10 would soften the armor slightly
    before closing.  But faster, lighter 'Mechs were able to close much more rapidly than
    anticipated, and essentially run circles around the Slug.
    
    The slower, heavier opponents, due to the Slug's lack of speed, were able to stay out of
    range of most of the Slugs weapons, and devastate it with their superior long range
    firepower.  And even when they got close enough, the armor difference was far too much for
    the Slug to overcome.
    
    Another drawback to the Slugs design was the severe lack of armor on the rear torso.  Why
    the initial designers put so little on the back of a slow moving design that was intended to
    get in close is beyond me.  Many pilots have left the hire of there employers because they
    simply refused to step into the "walking coffin", as they have been referred as.

Deployment:
    Because of its poor field tests, the SLG-1A Slug was only deployed to various Mercenary
    units among the Inner Sphere and to the Periphery States, where the need for cheap 'Mechs is
    higher.  Many of these have been destroyed since, and only a small handful are known to
    still be in existence.

Variants:
    The Slug has had no variants from its original design, and Blacknight Industries refuses to
    attempt to make modifications on such a failed design in the first place.
