Overview:
Yet another quadrapedal battlemech proposed, designed, and fielded by the veteran Star
Captain Kalo Osis, the Spitting Spider was designed as a mobile heavy missile platofrom. The
prototype was ready in 3063, and it became an official design in 3067, issued to defender
and long range fire support units
Capabilities:
Being a missile platform, the Spitting Spider employs the Arrow IV System in a series of
vertical launch tubes with an astounding twenty five missiles to keep it firing until the
end. A pair of LRM 15 packs in back leg launchers provide extra support, and a PPC is
mounted on the torso. For close in action, it packs a pair of SRM 4 launchers in the
foreward legs and a small laser in the head, so the Spitting Spider needs to be supported by
other mechs. All the long range weaponry is slaved to an advanced Targeting Computer.
Deployment:
A star is currently employed by the former 1st Wolf Striker Grenadiers (Now Part of Clan Ice
Hellions), and another star is currently under production in a hidden mech production
facility.

pffftt.... the only redeeming factors are th thick hide and the ER PPC that is tied into the targeting computer.
However, no true born would pilot this simply because it uses an Arrow IV.. its just not honourable.
The mech also tries to do too many things to be truly effective, it tries to be a artilley piece, long-range fire support and close in brawler.. and fails to do any of it well.
The targeting computer, while a strength is not used to its maximum advantage. The two ton computer can handle 10 tons of equipment, but only 6.5 are in use, and the ER SL is next to useless.
My take, no clan will ever build this. If they wanted artillery mechs, the Naga does a much better job (it carries TWO arrow IVs and move at a very healthy clip), for fire support in the same class, the Kraken is also far deadlier, and as a brawler.. you have Dire Wolfs and Kodiaks.

Carrying an Arrow IV involves sacrificing the potential of a one hundred ton 'mech, and standing back to use the Arrow IV instead of throwing this 'mech into the assault is a waste of a 100 ton chassis to do a job a tracked vehicle can do just as well.

Artillery mech with strong backup. Most trueborns would take something else, but this may find it's place as direct fire support unit. Try not to take part in duels, faster designs will get behind you and take few shots to your back, because there are no weapons or speed to prevent that.
