Overview:
A Star League era design thought to be unused by the Clans until now, events in the Clan
Homeworlds have forced those still present to dig deep into their reserves of war materiel.
The Banshee IIC is a Clan second line version of one of the most iconic designs in history.
Debuted during the days of the Terran Hegemony the original Banshee had many notable flaws,
flaws that were not unnoticed by SLDF personnel during the Exodus.
Later, the Clans conceived the IIC variant of this venerable design at a time of
necessity, but as technology advanced and OmniMechs became a reality, older chassis' were
slowly relegated to garrisons or Brian Caches on the Clan Homeworlds. The Star Adders had a
particular affinity for the design and retained the largest number of Banshee IICs in their
stockpiles.
Slowly upgraded throughout the centuries from a previous SLDF grade weaponry standard,
more potent designs have been produced recently, redubbed the IIC and the IIC 2. The new IIC
Variant mirrors and improves upon the already fearsome Defiance built BNC-5S but with Clan
technology. The IIC 2 changes out the weapons load for a Hyper Assault Gauss Rifle and a
battery of Improved Heavy Large Lasers and Large Pulse Lasers. Eighteen double heatsinks
provide adequate cooling, but can quickly become overtaxed in an extended firefight.
Capabilities:
Discovered during a Dark Caste raid of recently conquered Star Adder holdings in the
Kerensky Cluster, the Banshee IIC 2 was observed in garrison with other second line assault
mechs such as the Warhammer IIC and the Highlander IIC. Initially confused with a captured
Inner Sphere BNC-5S and thus perceived as weaker than the rest of its star, the Banshee IIC,
was singled out for attack by a reinforced star of Dark Caste Bandit Mechs and vehicles.
Isolated from its star mates, the Banshee IIC 2 was able to account for three kills in
the engagement before the Bandit force withdrew. Both the original IIC and the IIC 2
variant maintain the Banshee's tradition of speed (for an assault mech) and are fast for
their weight; clocking in around 68 kph at full speed. The IIC 2 variant of the `Mech mounts
two Improved Heavy Large Lasers, two Large Pulse Lasers, and a Class 20 Hyper Assault Gauss
Rifle, all tied in to a Targeting Computer.
This variant suffers from extreme heat issues, but has been particularly popular among
former Supernova and Marauder IIC pilots, who are used to managing a heavy heat load in
extended combat operations. Despite the already crippling heat load, these pilots
frequently lament the lack of jump jets that their former rides possessed.
Deployment:
The Banshee IIC is typically seen in solahma deployments and garrison duties, protecting the
spoils of war that the Star Adders have recently captured. The Banshee IIC is usually seen
in a Star command or direct fire support role, leveraging the design's staying power on the
battlefield.
Due to the maintenance costs and logistics, the most recent variant, the IIC 2, is most
commonly seen in garrison forces closer to the front lines, while the standard IIC variant
is far more numerous in rear echelon areas where higher tech weapons are much more scarce.
Variants:
The only variant seen to date, seems to be the predecessor to the IIC 2, the original IIC.
Packing two ER PPCs, a Gauss Rifle, two Medium Pulse Lasers, and a Streak SRM 6, this Clan
version of the BNC-5S brings the philosophy behind the design to its maximum potential, much
to the chagrin of Defiance Industries.
