Overview:
The ASN-2000 was developed by the Maltex Corporation as a competetor for the popular Spector
battlemech design. Although the ASN-2000 was never purchased in the same numbers as the
Spector, several Generals within the SLDF saw the value of having a diversified set of
head-hunter designs, for obvious reasons, so that opposing commanders could not optimize
their defenses to deal with only a single type of threat.
Capabilities:
The ASN-2000 relies on a large LRM rack, coupled with an Artemis IV FCS, for the bulk of
it's firepower. The incorporation of TAG allowed it to direct Arrow IV fire on a target
without ever breaking cover.
Care was taken to make the ASN-2000 resemble the ASN-21 as much as possible. The twin
medium lasers are housed within the same cowl on the 'mech's arm, so that an observer will
not be able to notice the difference, and the LRM-15 was designed using the same principle
used by the Atlas' LRM-20 launcher, so that the launcher only uses five tubes.
Deployment:
The ASN-2000 saw extremely limited use by the SLDF, and all known examples were destroyed in
the wars with Stefan Amaris, taken by the SLDF during the exodus, or destroyed during the
1st or 2nd Succession Wars. The only remaining plans were discovered in the Grey Death
Memory Core, but no manufacturer has moved to resume construction of this battlemech.

Pimp my Assassin! ;) The rather huge main weapon encourages long range fighting while the lasers provide nice close range defensiv firepower. Some electronics round out this design. The XL makes it both expensive and vulnerable but its speed and jump capability make it a hard target at longer ranges. The CASE will save this high tech mech even though it cannot prevent it from being out of action.

There is a lot of high tech thingies for a 'Mech that falls to Star League Era although it's no problem on a half-experimental rebuild. I'm not friendly toward radical rebuilds, but this machine resembles something that was done much later with the ASN-30 model, so the chassis is probably able to support this kind of modification. I'm not sure whether I wouldn't exchange the Artemis for additional armour... Umm, no the ASN had never been heavily armoured. It's a scout machine that has a lot more firepower while keeping the mobility, but the problem here is the XL engine. At least the 'Mech won't die from one gauss hit, but you'll probably have to retreat after one or two solid hits. Not bad, but don't even think about slowing down.

A pretty good scout/spotter mech. The weapons array is going to seriously catch some poor yahoo off guard. Whether or not it will be enough to let the mech survive combat is up in the air.
This would be an interesting mech to see retrofitted with Stealth armor. The current amount of protection is average to slightly less than average for its weight, so any kind of improvement would help. Heck, even plain old Ferro Fibrous would work.
A pretty good mech to cover three options: Shoot it, call in artillery, or run like hell.

The fluff is pretty good in explaining the mech's purpose and function and that sits well with me.
Bad news is the armor, i won't mind dropping the ECM for more foil on this glass jaw of a mech.
