Overview:
A full blown rebuild produced in House Marik territory for themselves mostly, but some
production is done in the DCMS as well, on the other hand other small nations and mercenary
units do purchase it to fulfill they're needs to upgrade at least partially into the new
technology. The Blackjack BJ-3 is both cheap and effective it is in its roll as medium mech
that can defend a city well.
It features an average ground speed, and average jumping distance for medium/heavy weight
battlemech. It features a standard engine and maximum armour as well. Also a very forgiving
heat curve lets it only heat up as much as you want it to. With the potential of 31 damage
if you really spike the heat. Of course if you take that shot they're had better be a really
good reason to do it.
Capabilities:
The long range punch of this design is its crowning achievement. The dual ER Larges and quad
of jump jets lets it manuver and fire in the same few seconds without generating any heat as
a longer ranged medium mech.
The downside to this is that unless its a scout mech your sniping usually you'll need to
close to actually intimidate and kill your opponent.
The short range weapons are five ER Medium lasers which provide a close just over 50% damage
increase over the paired ER Larges at range. The maximum armour will help this mech pound
its opponents into scrap and only here will maxium jump plus all your close range weapons
generate heat. If you need that much continuous jumping and firing you'll have to stand down
the 5th laser every 40-50 seconds just to be sure you achieve your objective.
Deployment:
A smattering of this revised version of the Blackjack can be seen across the Inner Sphere,
the most common nation to field it is the Free World's League, closely followed by the
Draconis Combine's Mustery Service, and then various mercenary units.
Its a good design, and various groups are mulling a switch over, but most are just slowly
rolling it into their forces as the older ones are lost/retired to other units.

Unfortunately this is not the Official Blackjack BJ-3 that was released by FASA way back when.
That design was quite nice for its day, now it is in reality probably out powered. It has 2 standard PPC's, 4 standard Medium lasers, standard chassis, standard armor and standard fusion engine. Doesn't sound too interesting yet does it? What it does have that makes it good is 10 double heat sinks. Allowing it to fire both main weapons slowly building heat from movement, and more than enough to keep it cool running if...IF...it gets down to that range of 3 where the PPC's are at thier minimum and ML's are at short range.

Pretty good for a mid-weight brawler. The speed seems a bit low for its weight, but the jump ability off sets that a bit.
The weapons, Im sorry to say, have been done before, but Im not sure if theyve been done to this extent.
The DHS cant keep up with a full alphastrike, though. A little bit of fire discipline, though, can keep this mech running cool enough to avoid any troubles. Still, if you have a perfect shot that you just -cant- miss, fire em all and hope you roll good on that Overheat check.
The armor is good for its weight, but isnt meant to stand up to serious firepower like gauss rifles and AC 20s.
As an infantry support mech, or as a mech to hunt down lighter mechs, this is going to do nicely.

A true blue bracket fighter.
Unlike what oafman says this thing can jump AND fire both ER LLs without overheating. Can't say the same for the ER MLs, but it's still pretty generous. Would have been happier with standard MLs (or one less er ML...).
Slow but heavily armoured and hard to kill. THeres no ammo to blow up and no XL engine to destroy.
This blackjack might actually see use guarding heavier fire support mechs or acting as fire support mechs themselves.

Slow, but very dangerous and durable laser boat. Cheap and fast enough for city defense or sniping when the enemy is occupied. Panther pilots won't be happy to see this.

You really like the ER lasers don't you? While the firepower is quite large, the actual usable firepower is almost none. With only 28 heat sinks when ever you move and fire both lg lasers this thing will over heat. Not to mention the fact that you have another 25 heat to maintain for all those med lasers. This means you can either fire one or the other. For me I do not like those odds.
