Overview:
With special permission from Maximilian Liao, Ceres Metals has recently begun work on
building that dual-PPC Vindicator, which had been discussed in the development process,
exactly 199 ago. Since hostilities with House Marik had been very heated until the late
3010s, and House Davion is looking ever threatening, it was decided that more firepower was
needed. Even at the expense of the Vindicator's versatility!
Capabilities:
This new Vindicator development, tentatively dubbed Minihammer for the role it is meant to
play, was designed to bring maximal, direct and long range firepower onto the battlefield.
For this, the designers placed a second PPC on the chassis. As had been discussed two
centuries before, that meant the elimination of the hand. And the removal of all secondary
weaponry, as well as the jump jets. As the heat dissipation capacity was still not
sufficient, the step was finally taken to upgrade the engine and allow for a greater total
tonnage.
The result is a medium battlemech that for all extent and purpose possesses as much long
range firepower as the vaunted Warhammer. In fact, much of the overall performance is very
similar to that design. Where the difference in weight shows is the short range armament:
the Minihammer is defenseless up close and relies on the protection of its lance mates for
survival.
Deployment:
Since this design is still in development, no unit has yet to field this design. It is
expected to enter trial service in 3028, at which time it is sure to give its foes a nasty
surprise.
(Historian's note: the first Minihammers reached the front just as the Davion invasion
signalled the start of the 4th Succession War. The Liao lines were simply flattened in all
theaters, notwithstanding this new desing. In fact, the Minihammer suffered heavily, not
because of lack of versatility, but much rather because of the lack of jump jets, which
often were a Vindicator's last resort! Production was halted after peace had been declared.
In this new unsteady peace, versatile and nimble 'mechs were much more needed than brute
strength that would have been futile in the end.)
(Editor's note: this is one of two designs that I just quickly thought of to demonstrate how
lifeless a lot of new run-of-the-mill designs could be. I spent ten minutes on the design
and now ten minutes on the fluff. The actual result should be decent. It is not a joke
'mech. But it is also not one of my dedicated efforts to create something unique and
inspiring.)

With right lance-mates it may be quite dangerous and provide heavy firepower for units of similar weight or it may act as lighter companion for heavies. It has just enough heat sinks to fire long barrages from cover (stationing this in shallow water would be good tactic) or to fire a lot during slow advances and it lacks the ammo that may explode when it overheats. There are some serious flaws too. Minimal range of the PPCs makes it vulnerable, armor is thin for a mech that looks to be designed for static defense and running from heavier foe seems to be impossible with this speed profile. The usefulness of this mech depends on its lance-mates.

I like the mech, but I do not like its 2 major flaws. #1 it can only fire in rounds of both, one, both, one. So out of 2 rounds you only fire 3 times. #2 it is way to vulnerable up close. Even a MG is better than nothing. With a speed of 4-6 even in 3025 it will be over ran. a bit more work and this would be a great design.

Actually a pretty solid design, u can get away with firing the dual PPCs often if u hang back and dont move around too much. And twin PPC volleys hurt in the 3025 era, making this mech dangerous.
The lack of ammo based point defence weapons is both a blessing and a curse. The loss of a crit seeker weapon like the SRM6 and MGs for handling infantry is painful but at least you dont have to worry about exploding from ammo hits. Leave the point defense to lighter vehicles and just focus on the more worrying targets. Definitely nice for combined arms work.
The armor is very nice for its weight and the speed is decent for the 3025 era. Should perform well with other timeless medium work horses like the Vindy and Cents.
