Overview:
The aptly-named Rifleboy was presented as a new design by Blackwell industry at the time of
the strategic gathering of House Lords on Outreach. The first step in a series of Dragoons
measures against the Clans, this small design introduced several technologies then unheard
of in the Inner Sphere. The usage of endo-steel made it clear in retrospect that Blackwell
must have built an orbital facility in the 3040s, an investment that fully came into its own
in 3054, with the introduction of the Gallowglas.
Capabilities:
Though weighing in at only 25 tons, this design is not a conventional light 'mech. Much
rather, it was designed as a supplement, if not replacement to the Rifleman: at less than
half the weight it carries 2/3rds of the armour and the same primary weaponry. Like the
Rifleman, the Rifleboy is to stand back behind the frontlines and carry out sniper duties.
Since it carries the same Garret D2j targeting system as its parent design, the Rifleboy can
also be used as an anti-aircraft platform.
Deployment:
Introduced during the summit at Outreach, the Rifleboy was immediately made available to
Draconis Combine and Federated Commonwealth forces fighting the Clans. Since then,
proliferation has become widespread, as it is a fairly cheap and ammunition-independent
design.
As with the Gallowglas, the Rifleboys ordered by Wolf's Dragoons (RBY-WD) are refitted with
even more advanced equipment by that unit.
Another possible variation which Blackwell offers are different weapons packages: a
replacement of the ER large lasers with standard ones (RBY-2N) would neutralise any heat
problems, but would force the 'mech into a combat role for which it simply was not designed.
A replacement with only one of the two ER large lasers (RBY-3Na) would be a compromise that
could be extremely effective, though it would tax the pilot's ability considerable to
combine the different ranges.

This thing can stand on some good firing post and blast enemies from distance, when they are engaged by other units. Technically this is just small Supernova.

I like this machine possibly too much. Its a clanner though so I'd never get to field it.
I'd prefer the mixed ER LL, and shorter in weapons with maybe less heat sinks. But thats the Bracketeer in me talking.
The armour is a bit light, but probably can be fixed in the hybrid version you outline. I like the speed and it seems like the perfect mech for Wolf's Dragoons to make.

Everything the 3N model is and a little more. Much better range, better damage, better armour and better heat sinking.
Superb support mech, especially since its just 25 tons..

Way to slow the Armour is not bad and Clan ER Large Lasers are dangerous but a faster mech can still weather the fire to get in close .An XL engine of greater power would be usefull here ,The ability to control the range of engagement would counter the increased vulnerability of the XL

Clan Tech just made this mech alot sweeter. Dual clan ER LL have like 25 range which make this mech even effective against Light gauss rifle wielders. Plus 2 more DHS to eliminate heat problems and a standard engine to boot.
