Overview:
This variant of the standard Commando is intended to address three of the most crippling
problems related to the design: thin armor, a lack of ranged firepower, and an
overdependence on ammunition resupply.
Capabilities:
Removing the SRM systems frees up considerable space, making the addition of a Defiance B3L
Large Laser possible (taking up the space formerly occupied by the SRM-4). Also added was
another two tons of armor, to help ensure survivability on the battlefield.
Deployment:
Lyran beurocracy being what it is, this refit has been slow to be deployed, despite many of
the test pilots giving very positive evaluations of the designs effectiveness.

Actually, Im surprised that this one hasnt shown up in a 3025 book already. The removal of the missile systems and using lasers, as well as gaining extra armor, is a logical step for this design.
Heat is going to be an issue, though, but should be managable with a little discipline.
The lack of ammo based weapons means that there will be no explosions, but shutting down in a firefight will kill you just as dead.
On the surface, I can almost see this as the prototype for what will become the Wolfhound-class battlemech.....

This reminds me of the first prototype Commando that mounted a large laser but fluff stated that its large laser had a problem with the mech's wrist. But i guess after so many centuries the problem MIGHT have being fixed....
Heat will be an issue but this Com will be threading the red line when running and gunning with the large laser but hey that aint too bad.

Standard Commando is nasty scout and striker. I like standard Commando. COM-2E is just as nasty as COM-2D (maybe even more). This means I like COM-2E. I would move large laser to CT for better protection.

I like the 2D's SRM loadout better than this large laser, as it gives you more potential damage and a wider critical hit spread, but the increased survivability and increased range of this design make up for that. I can see this 'mech successfully taking a Panther down in one-on-one combat, something the 2D couldn't do very easily. The only real problem I see here is a lack of any viable anti-infantry capability.

Its average and the original config for the Commando. I liked the missile rack idea better. But this is still a viable design in 3025 as a little heat won't kill you.
