Overview:
3052 witnessed a unique method of 'mech design: When FedCom and Draconis Combine engineering
teams cooperated to relocate the last existing FRR 'mech manufacturing plant, they also
designed an assault 'mech that was capable of fighting and beating clan machines, the
Gunslinger.
There were also several Star Corps scientists amongst the design team. Fully informed that
their company was planning the reconstruction of their old 'mech factory site on Son Hoa,
they took careful note of the results of the round table.
When the Star Corps facility reopened in 3057, they manufactured a new assault 'mech, next
to the venerable Highlander and Emperor designs, for which they had even constructed a new
orbital facility: the CLK-5R Clankiller.
Capabilities:
The CLK-5R was constructed to the same specifications as the GUN-1RD Gunslinger, and is of
the same weight as its siblings, the Highlander and Emperor.
While it seems like a symbioses of its siblings, with a Highlander body and Emperor arms, it
is in fact a completely new design. As such, it was the first of the three assault 'mechs
able to use the new endo steel manufactured in the orbital facility.
Star Corps has included several improvements over the Gunslinger, keeping in mind that this
'mech has the same mission profile: fighting Clan units on equal terms. The fact that the
Clankiller mounts less than its maximum armor was a calculted choice - experience had shown
that most casualities resulted in critical damage in vital equipment, rather than a complete
destruction of armour. Thus it mounts a standard engine and CASE for its ammunition and
volatile gauss rifle. The armament was expanded from the Gunslinger: apart from the
efficient gauss rifle and standard medium lasers, another weapon was found to be on par with
the Clan version: the Imperator LB-X autocannons mounted on the Emperor. Thus it was decided
to mount only one gauss rifle, adding two LB-X cannons instead. The result is a design that
has the long-range ballistic firepower of both the Emperor and Highlander in one, making it
truly formidable against even Clan designs!
All the secondary equipment found on the Gunslinger, apart from the medium lasers, was
eliminated: since this design was intended for straight pitched battles, jump jets (horribly
heavy for such a large design) or rear-mounted lasers did not seem necessary. Instead, the
medium lasers were mounted in several different locations, inluding the arms, to give a wide
arc of fire.
Deployment:
Other than the Emperor, this design is sold exclusively to Lyran and Draconis units on the
Clan border, giving discounts to units which also fielded the Gunslinger. By having a direct
comparison, Star Corps hoped to show the superiority of their design. The excellent sales
figures of recent years prove that they were right!

Definitely an ammo addict, but in case that you want to participate in clan trial, this looks like good choice. Be sure that you are near to supply lines or that all enemies are in laser range when you run out of ammo. Just like King Crab, this mech is sitting duck without ammo. Heat problems are almost nonexistent and chassis can survive heavy hits, but don't let yourself get cut off.

Personally if I was to field this. I'd strip out the Guass Rifle. Then add an ER PPC. Adding in another couple Medium Lasers, or maybe 2 Pulsed Mediums to go with 4 Standards.
Its a good design. But if I'm commiting it to go after the clans. I'm not going to want to lose all my ranged weapons if my mech runs out of ammo.
Also with my rebuild plan FF might be an option. Also make it so the arms can flip by killing the lower arm actuators. If your going clan killing at range your probably not punching much. Plus, Firetowns are a pain back there. Split ammo between left and right CASE as well.
I realise I'm not rating the design it seems. I like it, its okay. Better than average against the clanners. Just so many flaws for the kind of campaigns you want to fight clanners in to beat them easiest.

This is a mech with lots of guns and who doesnt like a mech with lots of guns to shoot with? its almost akin to an Akuma, but unlike the Akuma it still mounts a big main gun instead of having 3 - 4 strong weapons.
1 Gauss and 2 LB-10x will surely make anyone have a bad day.
Sufficient ammo for most skirmishes but keep a J-27 handy for campaign games.

I like.
This mech is designed to last really long.
Standard engine and case means that even ammo explosions won't keep it out of the fight.
It also carries a good mix of weaponry that ought to keep anyone it faces honest.
The only concern is that all of its long range weapons are ammunition hungry. True it carries a lot of ammo, but in an extended campaign, i can see potential problems.
Otherwise, a good design that is almost certain to give even clan mechs a bad day.

A very impressive design. Long and mid-range killing power, backed up by some close-in weaponry. A fair armor load completes the relatively good package.
Now for the obligatory complaints. The primary weapons are too dependent on ammunition. In a campaign, this 'mech is going to run dry many times over.
