Overview:
The newest variant of the Annihilator produced by Blackwell Industries, this refit was
designed to improve some of the flaws of its previous variants.
Capabilities:
The original Annihilator and its later ANH-2A were all fearsome autocannon boats, but with
major flaws. Despite the ANH-2A upgrade which vastly improved the mech's firepower, the
Annihilator still suffered from a lack of protection with only a mere 12 tons of armor
protecting its 100 ton frame and the heatsinks were still standard models. The ANH-3A is
designed to rectify this, once and for all.
One of the first major upgrade is refitting the Annihilator with double strength freezers.
Although the process was long and troublesome, it was deem neccessary to relieve the more
tonnage on the mech. The refitting was successful and the ANH-3A has cooling power
equivalent to 20 normal strength freezers and thus freeing up 7 more tons. Instantly, 6.5
tons of armor was thrown onto the mech's frame, making the ANH-3A much beefier than its
previous icarnations.
The refitting process also involved the removal of the medium pulse lasers. Apparently the
designers felt the mech's extremely low speed made using such a weapon impractical due to
the extreme short range of the weapons. Thus the arm mounted medium pulse lasers were
removed and the side torso mounted pair were replaced with brand new Diverse Optics ER
Medium Lasers. The groundbreaking ER technology Medium lasers boasts twice the range of the
medium pulse lasers and 30% greater range than normal models which will greatly benefit the
slow moving 100 tonner.
The most important upgrade was the addition of a Diverse Optic Sunbeam ERLarge laser to the
centre, giving the Annihilator a long range punch. This was a welcomed addition since
traditionally, the ANH-2A only long range hitter is the Lb-10x which is pegged to the ammo
bins. Once those are empty, the ANH-2A is vulnerable from ranged attacks and the ANH-2A
paper thin armor, slow speed and extremely short range backup weapons will soon count
against it. The ERLarge laser can serve as a backup when the ACs run dry or simply for ammo
conservation, which is always a good thing.
The last of the upgrades is 2 more tons of ammunition being added to the mech, giving each
Imperator Code Red LB-10x 50% more ammunition, which gives the green pilot more room for
error and a bigger smile on the veteran face. For ammo, its usually 2 tons of slug ammo and
4 tons cluster since Cluster ammo makes accurate shooting much easier although it does
spread out the damage.
The ANH-3A maintains the low top speed of the original Annihilator but with the vastly
improved armor, the ANH-3A has the potential to stand toe toe to any assault of its class
and beat the living coolent out of mechs of smaller tonnage.
Deployment:
Being affilated to the Wolf Dragoons for years, its no secret that Blackwell will devote
this newest refit to the Wolfs. And the Annihilator being exclusive to the Wolf Dragoons,
its not surprise this variant will not be sold to any House or other merc companies.

Much better in almost all aspects other than speed. CASE and heavy armor will give opponents a hard time to take it down. More ammo and a large ER laser give it more endurance too.

Almost perfect upgrade. Additional armor was sorely needed as well as the ammo. Improved lasers are just like sweet cherry on the top of tasty cake...

Its about time this thing had some reach. I know, the ACs have a nice range profile, but you only have so many shots before they run dry.
The ER larges mean that this thing can continue to have that range envelope after the AC ammo bins are dry.
The armor on this can only be described as obnoxious if you are firing at it, and nice if you are in it. Able to take sevearal gauss rifle hits, it isnt an easy mech to put down. Heck, it could weather a double tap from a UAC 20 in the right spots, without having to worry too much about internal damage. Its still not invulnerable, though, so dont tempt fate.
The speed on this is painfully slow, reminicent of the Urbanmech series. For an assault against an entrenched position, that wont matter too much, but should you be forced to cut and run, you will be easily run into the ground.

Much better than the original, but still too limited. With only 15 rounds per gun it has little endurance, which is compounded by the incredibly slow speed. Most mechs can easily remain at long range until the ammo is exhausted. This is a sniper's dream target- and only useful in specialized roles. If you need an anti-infantry, light vehicle, or aircraft mech for a stationary defense then this mech is a great choice. Otherwise, almost any design will be more useful.

This mech is a very well thought out upgrade. Sure it lacks a lot of bells and whistles common on the average assault mech. But, it focuses well and is relatively cheap with non of the really expensive technology items on it.
Sure it only has a range of 18/19 maximum but in theory it can dish out 40 points at that range easier than just about anything else. Its a bit slow so its a better defence mech, but as a measured assault unit you can slowly chew through your enemy.
The addition of a true Assault mech's load of armour makes this mech 100 times more usable for those of us who actually use assault mechs in mercenary units. I personally couldn't fit it into my baker's dozen but we're a hit and run raiding unit.
I can see a serious appeal to want one for those rare defence contracts though.
