Overview:
For nearly twenty years, the Raven has been one of the most advanced and versatile scout
'Mechs in the Inner Sphere. For nearly twenty years, no BattleMech design has been able to
match the Raven's ability to any job a scout 'Mech might be assigned. And for nearly twenty
years, the Raven has been unchanged and unupgraded, slowly but surely falling behind the
rest of the Inner Sphere. While the 4L Raven was an improvement, it was at best a very small
improvement, because nothing in the design actually changed. Finally, the CCAF has accepted
a new design from Hellespont Industries - the RVN-5L Raven. This new Raven is not simply an
upgrade, but a completely new machine, incorporating Endo Steel internal structure to make
it lighter and the new Stealth armor to make it stealthier.
Capabilities:
The RVN-5L Raven has all the capabilities of the older 4L, as well as several advantages.
The stealth armor is now notably heavier than older Ravens could boast, increasing the 'Mech
chances of surviving to report any enemies it finds. The right arm mounts a pair of ER
medium lasers, giving the Raven respectable firepower and range without ammunition
limitations. A Streak SRM 6 rack replaces the 4L's older SRM 6, providing a significant
increase in firepower, accuracy, and ammunition economy. The electronics suite is the same
that has always made the Raven one of the best reconnaissance 'Mechs available. In fact, the
only possible disadvantage is that the NARC launcher now has less ammunition. The removal of
fully half the Raven's NARC ammo was necessary in order to mount the upgraded Streak SRM 6,
and was deemed an acceptable modification because of the Streak systems efficiency.
Deployment:
RVN-5L Ravens are just beginning production on Sian. It is expected that they will be
deployed almost exclusively to units on the Confederation's border with the Federated Suns.
The exceptions to this are the warrior Houses; they are expected to receive these new
machine to replace older Ravens wherever they are stationed.

This is really only useful in support of a fire-support lance of missile-boats. With its electronic loadout it can act as a good ambush unit (ECM) or pathfinder (BAP), quickly unload its NARCs, and either high-tail it out of there or help finish the job off with its lasers and Streaks.
Fortunately, Liao fields lots of Catapults, and Vindicators carry LRMs as well, so there are definitely places where this can do some good. Since it carries Streak SRMs it does not benefit itself with NARC pod hits, so there is no point in sending this out to act as an independent scout.

Nice Raven upgrade, It has stronger armor than 4L and better weapons. Maybe C3 can make the spotting ability of this mech even better.

Too many interesting choices for me to love it. The 4 tons on Narc gear when you've only got the one missile weapon and probably not too many missile boats kicking around to use it for. Could increase the speed something this design always needed or boost the back up fire power.
The XL engine is the other thing that drives me nutty, but thats life. With the stealth armour your likely to be able to close and escape and evade depending on your mood to protect it.
Biggest disadvantage is that it needs to close against the mediums and heavies it can beat, but the lights its going to fight the most are going to smoke it, because they'll remove your armour advantage.

This mech is a tad slow for my tastes but it has a real nice elint package and the Stealth armour certianly helps it acomplish its missionThe armour load is good as well I would us this mech to strike from ambush rather than as a raider because of its low speed
