Overview:
The Baboon has long been an unpopular design with it's pilots, most of whom are free born
second-line warriors. This model is the ride of Star Commander Ethan, a recon star leader
in the Jade Falcon's 74th Battle Cluster. He managed to requisition an ER PPC after his LRM
launchers were all destroyed in a battle, and no replacement LRM launchers were available in
the poorly provisioned 74th.
Capabilities:
An ER PPC gives this machine a punch capable of seriously damaging most other light 'mechs
with a single hit, making this Baboon more of a threat than the design has been
traditionally considered. The armor protection remains light, so despite the firepower
upgrade this 'mech is still strictly a support unit.
Deployment:
The 74th Battle Cluster is part of Lambda galaxy, Clan Jade Falcon's deep space escort
force. The Baboon 2, with it's energy weapon loadout, is idealy suited for this sort of
duty. The ER PPC gives it a sting capable of taking out most of the light machines deployed
by pirates in the deep periphery.

Baboon 1 has the advantage in being able to fire indirectly. The Baboon 2 must expose itself to fire and it's armor is barely sufficient to withstand light weapons fire. Ammo dependency isn't problem with the original design, because most battles including it will probably end before it's missiles run dry. On the other side, the Baboon 2 has it's own advantages, with the concentrated damage of the PPC it can easily cripple most light and many medium 'Mech with single shot. Snipe and stay away from combat and you'll be fine.
One more thing. The Baboon 2 designation was recently taken for a phoenixed 'Mech in TRO 3055 Upgrades and one of it's variants, the Devil is also equipped with an ER PPC, but I must admit that this modification is far better.

A mix bag over this one.
1) It has the ability to headchop someone over the distance. Bad news is that its all for nothing, if u you miss, its gone. 3 LRM5s would probably have a greater chance of smacking the targets overall.
2) Its armor is light and using a direct fire weapon would mean that the enemy can hit you back. You can see him, he can see you which would mean that you would take fire pretty quick. At least with the LRMs you can stand off and engage indirectly if there are any spotters around.
Good news is:
1) Its cheap !!! Yes ! When compared to the Clan XL lights, you can feel literally field dozens and dozens of these PPC carriers and really annoy someone.
2) With the ammo gone, you can last longer on the field.
Overall slightly above average. Its a good national guard mech for whoever uses it. :)

On the surface, this looks pretty good. A logical modification to the original. What Im not truly convinced of is the PPC being the best way to go.
The original mech was designed as a light, highly mobile fire support platform. Something that I think this mech might be lacking.
Before you start screaming for my head, let me explain.
Three LRM 5's have the same damage potential as a Clan ER PPC, that is, 15 points of damage. Now I know its rare for all three launchers to hit with all five missiles. If an average of 3 missiles (for the sake of argument) per launcher hit the target, thats 9 points of damage of a possible 15.
The ER PPC lumps that same ammount of damage into one shot. Hit, and youre going to really wreck someones mood. Miss, and thats 0 damage dealt out of a possible 15.
On the positive side, this modification eliminates the Baboon 1's total dependance on ammo. I cant justify giving this a higher rating, as the lack of ammo is balanced by the 'all or nothing'-ness of the PPC.
Still, a mixed star of these, and the original mech would be a very effective and dangerous support star.

Only downside to this chassis. Its good enough for front line Omni warriors to consider a challenge. Which your three tons of armour even as ferro-fibrous isn't going to be enough.
Also you could quibble about the ER PPC not being in the arm, and it not being able to cover your rear arc. With this little armour its kind of pointless to do that though.
Its basically the Clan version of the upgrade I do to the Cicada, only half the weight. Which is awesome in some ways.

I really like this design.. The erppc makes a good stand alone weapon, and its speed is good enough to keep the mech far enough out of the enemies ranges. The only quibble here is the light armour.
