Overview:
What can you do to an old speedster? That was a question posed by a senior tech to a class
of cadets. The answer? Design the LCT-4X Locust. What started as a senior class project has
gone to production phase. In little over 4 years this project has been purchased by
HydroDyme Inc.; a water systems mogul corporation. This is it's attempt to tap the sometimes
lucrative military market.
Capabilities:
Pushing the design to it's limits, the students managed to get a top speed of 198 kph out of
the structure. This Locust is a bit squatter than previous variants( about 1.8 meters
shorter) to help with stabilization at high speeds. Also new foot treads were developed to
help with traction and directional control. It took several tries to find an actuator
assembly and myomer bundle group that would work together and handle the stresses of the
high speed demands. 4 tons of ferro fibrous armor and 2 medium class lasers help bring this
speedster some muscle.
Deployment:
So far, besides the class project, there is one other mech of this type in existance.
Produced as a test bed for performance testing, this mech is currently on campus at NAIS on
New Avalon. The original is currently on New Robinson for study by HydroDyme to evaluation
construction techniques for a production run of this mech.

A faster Locust, alright, Ill bite.
The speed of this model is both its greatest asset and its biggest enemy.
The sheer speed will keep it from being targeted easily, giving it a chance to do some kind of damage in combat. However, should the mech skid on pavement, its going to make a rather impressive greasy smear on the ground.
While I wouldnt clear this for front line combat, I would keep several on hand for exploitation raids and other 'bash n dash' missions.

This is the sort of thing the Inner Sphere needs in order to compete with the clans in terms of sheer speed. Not that it can outgun a clan light, but at least it moves fast enough to get in, do some recon, and get out alive.
It needs to be teamed up with some sort of fast electronics carrier for it's own good though. Maybe deploy a lance of these things, three of them carrying lasers, and one carrying an electronics bay in place of weapons.

An average upgrade. Sure it gains a lot of speed but oh does it get some serious negatives to do it. Accidently man pack PPC infantry might be able to gut it from ambush.
The weapons aren't optimal for this speed. They still are kind of nice though. Expensive and overly specialized. Its only really useful in open plains and most mech warriors prefer to fight else where, so faster and longer ranged designs don't get as much of a drop on them.

this is a speed demon on steroids!! i like the speed but i think the mlasers should be upgraded to erml's. overall you really can't complain too much about this mech!
